Favorita’s Waters explored the complex system of waters in the city of Palermo: hidden, invisible, fragile, spectacular, contested, reclaimed, water manifests in many forms. Fountains, qanat, obelisques, pipes, ponds, sanctuaries, irrigation channels, reservoirs, tanks, gutters: infrastructures question the social, cultural, environmental and political role of water, its value as a common resource and the importance of managing and sharing it among a community. From the 5th to the 12th July we practiced water collection and distribution, producing a collection and storage system, and a public wandering fountain for Teatro Garibaldi and Piazza Magione. The workshop was curated and coordinated by @wunder_net and @flaggeca , promoted by @istitutosvizzero and hosted by @studio_rizoma_ in collaboration with @usi_accademia @unipa.it @muck_petzet_architekten @giusepbarbera supported by Banca Patrimoni Sella and could count on the precious contribution of @margi.palermo @catalenaaaaa @rangers.italia and @scalo5b Favorita’s team included Megha Lowe . Alessandro Tonolli . Defne Korkmaz . Natalia Comenge . Ece Niksarli . Catherine Cibeira Lachmann . Audrey Dulon . Klara Johnsson . Oskar Nordkvist . Elena Hornby . Last year intervention at our renovation project in Crebbio (LC). Opening up the space and remove superpositions so to unfold new layers of possibilities within the historical structure. At the same time, building material is coming back as a resource directly on site. taken in Crebbio by @curaa.studio

Out is through - This is going to be the last summer of Roccolo Valbiga in its unfinished state, not a bare shed anymore and not a house yet. Furnished with essential means yet specific rituals, often arranged from what is already there and little else. taken in Mandello del Lario by @curaa.studio

What initially seemed like a straight reinforcement operation with a few ipe beams gradually turned into a sort of odd pigeon-nest-like structure that still was relying on the old rotten planks.
At that point, we rented an asphalt cutter to salvage the old cocciopesto floor before laying a new wooden subfloor. Approximately 52 bizarre islands are now floating in the courtyard waiting to be merged again around a new ocean. taken in Abbadia Lariana by @curaa.studio

The project “Seeds Under the Snow” positions itself at the intersection of contemporary cultural, social and environmental urban challenges and presents an experimental laboratory to promote social cohesion, sustainable resource use, and collective action. It focuses on working with urban commons and methods of self-building as a means of facilitating autonomous civic activities that support local communities in addressing pressing urban challenges.

The aim is to bring together various stakeholders active in Bergamo to learn from each other and jointly build innovative urban infrastructures - through experiments in urban agriculture, sustainable food, waste management and personal well-being.

SEEDS UNDER THE SNOW
Summer school 2025
Bergamo [I]

Together and for people of cooperativa sociale L’impronta and LORTO

A project of SO.NO. Società nomade @so.no.societanomade

SOIL&SUN

A long triple table, with a moon shape, under 2 olive trees, to sell, expose, wash, eat, play and work.
A long bench of scented cedar wood, to sit all together in the fresh shadow, the back leaning on the venetian wall, to relax and lay down.
A small fountain to wash vegetables and to fill water jugs.
A calm place of collective shade

Second hand tiles+wood waste+ stone waste+new hardware

The space between the bastion of San Giacomo and the entrance to the white marble
Venetian gate, before becoming a community garden, was the boundary between city and
countryside, between inside and outside, above and below, between rock walls and
tree-lined slopes, the backdrop for daily comings and goings and a lookout point for
non-existent attacks, but also an air-raid shelter, a place for Sunday walks, a mulberry grove,
a vineyard and a clandestine tavern.
The Soil and Sun group, together with Lorto and L’impronta, work on episodic
relationships, through the maintenance, care and invention of points and areas that attempt
to recount the special nature of a place that is well known yet half-hidden behind walls and
buttresses.
We try to relate sensitively to the majesty of the architecture that surrounds it and the
delicacy of the hands of those who have been watering, sowing and harvesting for years.
The soil is understood as topography, as a smaller-scale territory: support, pace, rhythm,
path for humans, drainage for water and foothold for plants and insects; free surface: soft,
porous, permeable or stone composition, horizontal design, graphic sign for those observing
from up there at the top. Will the action be permanent?
We seek shade from the sun to shelter us while we work, to protect the most delicate crops, to filter the air and snow, to gather us when it rains.

Thanks to all amazing participants for thinking and assembling!
