🔔Black Owned Business🔔 I’m so excited to share this incredible find with you all: @ByrdsNestBox , a Black-owned family run farm in Louisburg, NC, that is preserving culture and history through food. Owner Falani is carrying on a powerful legacy on her grandparents’ land by growing crops from heirloom seeds sourced from Africa, South America, and even the Gullah Geechee islands. This isn’t just a farm—it’s a living, breathing connection to heritage. The produce here is unlike anything you’ve seen. We’re talking fiery Brazilian peppers, classic African field peas, and beautiful red, white hibiscus from Gambia and over 12 varieties of watermelon. I was even able to eat a fresh heirloom okra right off the vine! Beyond the fresh bounty, you have to try Fulani’s artisan hot sauces @RedTownHotSauce. The unique flavors, like mango, peach, passion fruit, and blackberry, are absolutely delicious. You can get your own taste of this amazing farm by checking out her upcoming harvest and craft workshops. They were able to preserve a significant amount of their African linguistic and cultural heritage, including farming practices and seed varieties, due to their geographic isolation. Please SAVE and SHARE. FREE Self Guided Tours. Did you know that one of the LARGEST plantations in North Carolina is right here in Durham?! And the living quarters of the enslaved are still intact! Plan your trip to @HistoricStagville to see for yourself! PRO TIPS: 💡This tour is for EVERYONE (including children and seniors) 💡The guided tour only costs $2, but is FREE for Black History Month (at the time of this post) 💡Guided tours are at 11am, 1pm and 3pm (check their site) and last about 75 mins. Operation hours are Tuesday – Saturday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m (closed on designated holidays).  💡Self guided tours are available for FREE, but I HIGHLY recommend the guided tour so you can ask questions and hear stories that may not be included in the self guided tour. 💡Wear comfortable walking shoes. The terrain is not level in some spots and part of the tour is through a wooded area. 💡The tour consists of two properties (Stagville and Horton Grove). Walk the grounds, go inside of actual living quarters, touch the finger imprints on the bricks of the artisans who layed them, and learn more of America’s sordid past. “One time, at band camp...” Okay, but seriously! Watching the @ncatsuaggies @coldsteeldrummers kick off the @NCFolkFestival brought back all the nostalgia of being a musician! What you may not know about me is that I was a flag girl and actually played an instrument for YEARS—and I was even holding down first chair for several of those years! Watching the precision, drive, and electric energy of a top-tier drumline always takes me back to those days and actual time at band camp. Can you guess what instrument I played?
