It’s called the Curated California Initiative.

And it’s more than a project, it’s a platform built to spotlight the people, places, and small businesses that define the spirit of our state.

What started in Huntington Beach has become a mission to tell real, human stories from across California, from vibrant artisan fairs and beachside cafés to family-run studios and second-chance dreams.

One of our favorite happy hours with a view in Huntington Beach 🌊

@joliehuntingtonbeach is the kind of place you go when you want something a little more elevated - ocean views, great energy, and a setting that actually lets you slow down for a minute.

Weekday happy hour typically runs 3–6 PM (Mon–Fri) with about $4 off drinks and appetizers (menu can shift).

From the Pork & Beef Meatballs and Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice Stack to cocktails like the Amalfi Coast, Raised by Wolves, So Much Drama, Suppai Sour, Cold Brew Martini, Ube Painkiller, and The Jolie Martini - it’s all part of the experience.

Fly N Fish Oyster Bar & Grill is one of our favorite coastal seafood spots, and it is always a great place to support a locally owned, family-run business.

They offer a weekday lunch special Monday through Friday with two courses for $25, and truly, every dish on the menu is delicious. From fresh oysters and chef-driven calamari to rich cioppino, warm homemade bread, and cocktails that feel thoughtfully made, everything here is done with care.

Family-owned, beautifully run, and the kind of cozy-meets-classy place that makes you want to linger a little longer. Whether it is a relaxed lunch, sunset dinner, or date night, this is one we are always happy to recommend.

September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month.

Behind every conversation, every story, and every moment of vulnerability is a reminder: you are not alone.

The Matthew Silverman Memorial Foundation - @mattsfoundation - a California nonprofit dedicated to youth suicide prevention, has been leading the way, bringing together athletes, advocates, and experts to break the silence around mental health.

From The Loud Silence on @foxsports to collaborations with Caleb Williams and the Caleb Cares Foundation - @calebcaresfdn - with Dr. Kate Truitt - @dr.katetruitt and the Truitt Institute, Mardy Fish opening up about his experience with anxiety disorder, and all the college athletes who’ve struggled and contributed to the conversation, these voices remind us that healing begins when we start talking.

We finally tried @rocotopescabar (Rocoto Pesca Bar) this past weekend and wow, what a delight!

This is a one-of-a-kind Chifa-inspired fusion of Peruvian, Japanese, and French influences, blending sweet, citrus, garlic, and nutty flavors with ingredients like caviar, leche de tigre, red aioli, and avocado purée.

The seafood here is on another level… 5-star quality, brightened with their citrusy tiger sauce that makes the ceviche unforgettable.

The hamachi tostada and scallop dishes were layered, vibrant, and so fresh. And for comfort? The chupe de camarones and papa rellena hit all the right notes.

But it’s not just about the food. The cocktails are as creative as the dishes - the Mamba Tini felt tropical and aromatic, the Plum Collins was light and subtly exotic, and the Mezcalita brought smoky spice with a Peruvian twist. You can tell Chef Christian Chan is both a detail-oriented chef and mixologist.

Everything from the plating to the balance of flavors shows his precision.

Christian is continuing the Chan family’s legacy, started by Jorge and Jessica Chan at El Rocoto, where Jorge (aka the OG of Chifa in OC) first introduced the region to the bold, multicultural flavors of Peru. Rocoto Pesca Bar is the next chapter: modern, coastal, and absolutely worth putting on your must-try list.

Join the Kiwanis Club at Old World for Oktoberfest Opening Day = Family + Fun + Community Impact!

We had some laughs with a few of the @hbkiwanis volunteers in lederhosen while shooting this, but behind the fun is something bigger…

👉 On Sunday, September 7th, the Kiwanis Club of Huntington Beach kicks off Oktoberfest at @biergartenhb with a special fundraiser.

Every ticket, every brat, every stein raised helps fund programs that support local kids and families right here in HB.

Kids - don’t forget to bring your folks! Moms, dads, sisters, brothers, grandparents, aunts, and uncles are ALL welcome.

The Spirit of Duke Lives On

@dukeshb was founded to honor the legendary Duke Kahanamoku, Olympic gold medalist, surf icon, and the man who introduced the world to the aloha spirit.

When the founders, Rob and Sandy, built Duke’s (and T S Restaurants @tsrestaurantsohana ), they wanted it to be more than a restaurant.

They envisioned a place where the culture of Hawai‘i, hospitality, warmth, and connection could live on through food, family, and the ocean.

Chef Neph (aka @chefnephcooks ) brought the heat with a mouthwatering short rib menu that had the whole crowd talking, and coming back for seconds. 🔥

From fall-off-the-bone tenderness to bold, soulful flavor, every bite was a masterclass in comfort food island fusion done right.
