You guys, I don’t know how to tell you this, but we’ve been honored by Congress.😳 Rep. Laura Friedman stopped by our shop anniversary party to bestow a Certificate of Special Recognition honoring “Six years of thoughtful curation, creative vision, and steadfast commitment to sustainable retail and community engagement, enriching the cultural fabric of Atwater Village, Los Angeles” … 🥹 Every time I read that,☝️I tear up💧and when I read it to the staff, our GM @annfranchan said ‘I just got chills.’ 🫠 We are so deeply honored. When I told @cameronsilver I was snapping fashion inspiration photos at the #MocaGala2022 cocktail party, he replied that I’d win a #Pulitzer for the coverage. 😂 Such was the mood at Moca Saturday - supportive, optimistic, and revelrous. Artist Alexandra Grant boasted about the new Moca female leadership in Clara Kim and Johanna Burton, before proclaiming a new chapter for LA artists. Johanna Burton shouted-out the upcoming shows; all LA-based artists. Pipilotti Rist, the artist whose wildly fun and funny exhibit is closing soon told @deborahvankin of the LA Times, "This is such a great crowd, in the wildest city in the world. All supporting the arts. It can’t get any better.” Hear, hear. ❤️

The mostly outdoor event was intensified by an undercurrent of pent-up social and sartorial demand after a three year hiatus; a full on pageant of color arrived as encouraged by the invitation ‘Colorful Cocktail’. Colors whooshed by like brush strokes from every angle - Alexandra Grant in red, Deb Vankin in orange, Real Housewife Keni Silva in chartreuse tulle, a gentleman in a Dodger blue sequined jacket, and a tall, slim glass of water drinking wine in an entirely purple suit. Bright pink was everywhere. Some of my favorite outfits combined it all. Head of Moca Burton and some of the board members wore head to toe multicolor sequined Gucci gowns. There was also denim. A cowboy hat. A cape/train (Moca Board chair @maria_seferian). And a 99-cent Chinatown mini-bag (Cameron Silver).

I’m so grateful to my pal Deb Vankin for the plus-one. I had so much fun documenting this event, in this time, and in this place. While perhaps not Pulitzer-worthy, I humbly present to you here and in stories some of what I saw and was inspired by. Enjoy❣️

Haha, only a small business owner would care about this, but we were just gifted the north-facing side of our shop sign! 🙌 Another little milestone, but also: BIG NORTH STAR ENERGY. Feels apt for year seven❣️🤸💫✨

Atwater to Antwerp in approx. four outfits. 😂 @___ellamae___ sample sale SCORE❣️ I’ll be wearing this skirt for the next month straight - one of those pieces you think will be hard to pair until you realize it goes with literally everything. Crop top → streetwear tee w Chanel brooch → anorak → @driesvannoten SS27-inspired layers with gloves. 😂 (Which led to restyling all six mannequins in Dries-inspired looks.) Welcome to my staging grounds for The Curatorial Dept.❣️🎪🎠 Furniture moving to and fro, decor arranged and rearranged, clothes coming in, then (eventually 😂) moving out. The big blue candy table will end up in the shop, but I wanted to keep it around for a while. Definitely for the @latimes shoot. 📸 Candy stripes on the brain because they’re bright, they’re bold, and they inspire play/fun/sweetness. Pretty on the nose, I guess. But that’s how I’m feeling these days, which is better than a sharp stick in the eye❣️🍭
