Erin Ginty 'i'm just like a bag of soil'

OPEN Thurs/Fri/Sat/Sun
11am-4pm

i'm just like a bag of soil digs into how experiential knowledge gained whilst gardening might translate into an embodied, relational practice with material. Drawing from permaculture philosophies, the work consists of biomorphic sculptural assemblages made from biodegradable and reclaimed matter, often collected from loved ones gardens. It thinks-through soil regeneration, alternative builds, composting, seed saving and edible weeds as generative starting points for making. i'm just like a bag of soil hopes to emphasize abundance and deepen ways of interacting with ecologies that are cyclical, reciprocal and curious. by @current.gallery

‘i’m just like a bag of soil’ by Erin Ginty is open 12-5pm Fri-Sun. Thank you to everyone for coming down for opening night! by @current.gallery

On Sunday the 8th November, to close the exhibition i’m just like a bag of soil, Erin Ginty will facilitate a reading group that contemplates and extends out the themes of the exhibition, considering adaptive gardening, interspecies cross-pollination and ecological stewardship. The readings will be informally discussed alongside platters of food made with edible weeds foraged from the artists and friends gardens, allowing participants to experience and enjoy alternate ways of consumption. From Joy Williams’ short story One Acre to Erin Manning’s essay Promiscuous Pedagogies and Val Plumwood’s essay Decolonising Australian Gardens, attendees will inquire into the likening of creative and gardening practice. Tickets are required and available at the link in bio 🔗 by @current.gallery

Me_Me is an on-going collaborative project between Reegan Jackson and Annie Huang, that focuses on the discursive qualities of internet media as cultural debris. This exhibition is a sculptural installation that materializes trending internet meme sounds into form. Memes circulate through automated systems that priorities recognisability, speed, and shareability. As sound, they become detached from origin, authorship, and context, operating instead as cultural signals that are endlessly repeated, revoiced, and distorted. Drawing from these short, highly circulated audio fragments involving catchphrases, remixed speech, vocal tics, and
computational sounds, the work treats meme sounds as sonic events shaped by repetition, compression, and platform logic.

Within Me_Me, internet meme sounds are recorded and computationally analysed, where various elements of sound data are then guided and translated into three-dimensional data points and growth. The resulting digital forms are then reproduced in methods of casting, translating fleeting digital audio into slow, materially precious objects. By rendering viral sound into mediums historically associated with endurance and function, the exhibition seeks to play with the tension between endurance and disposability.

The resulting works function as resonant bodies, sculptural forms that hold traces of collective listening. Reflecting on cultural narratives that are being increasingly mediated through short-form, algorithmically amplified sound. The installation proposes meme audio as a contemporary vernacular, one that narrates how digital systems reorganise share memory and community building.

_____g.s is very excited to invite you to attend ‘Me_Me’, an exhibition of work by Annie Huang & Reegan Jackson, on Saturday October 17th, 6 - 9pm at Current Gallery, 141 Victoria Street Fremantle, 6160.

The exhibition runs October 18 to 25th, and will be open to the public on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 12 - 5pm.

'Me_Me' is an ongoing collaborative project between Reegan Jackson and Annie Huang exploring internet media as cultural debris. The sculptural installation materialises trending meme sounds, catchphrases, remixed speech, vocal tics, and computational sounds, shaped by repetition, compression, and platform logic. Detached from origin and authorship, these sounds circulate as cultural signals through automated systems. 'Me_Me' computationally analyses meme audio, translating sound data into three-dimensional forms that are reproduced through casting. Transforming fleeting digital audio into materially enduring objects, the works become resonant bodies that hold traces of collective listening, exploring how digital systems reorganise shared memory, cultural narratives, and community.

The gallery is located on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible.

'Me_Me' was developed and supported through Cool Change's 2026–27 Residency Program.

‘In Its Image’ by Jen Datu & Colin Villapa

CURRENT Gallery

Friday 12-6pm
Saturday + Sunday 12-5pm

Colin Villapa and Jen Datu are an artistic duo and friends who live on Whadjuk Noongar Country (Boorloo/Perth). Working together for 4 years, their collaborative practice draws from memories and idiosyncrasies of their Filipino heritage to examine how personal spirituality and technology can pave gaps in cultural disconnect. With a recent interest in mythologies, worldbuilding and digital existence, their work is a bricolage of sculpture, video and installation as they construct playful bridges of collective healing. Colin and Jen have undertaken joint residencies and mentorships with NOD, Walyalup Fremantle Arts Centre, PICA’s Boorda Yeyi program and Next Wave (VIC). They have exhibited together and in group shows at Pig Melon, Lawson Flats and Brunswick Mechanics (VIC). Both artists graduated from Curtin University with a Bachelor of Fine Art.

$LAST WEEK TO VISIT: ‘In Its Image’ by Jen Datu & Colin Villapa Colin Villapa and Jen Datu sift through personal home video footage, treating the archives as an archaeological site. Video projection passes digital artefacts through portals of light and stained glass; in an act of devotion, they pull from the reflections and refractions to remake the glitch in glass and send it back to the digital realm. Drawing from their Filipino heritage, the two friends loop between mediums investigating parallels between spiritual worlds and digital realms, Catholic mythology and the residual effects of colonisation. Cultural authenticity is called in to question as unexpected anomalies begin to materialise, sliding and morphing into something real. CURRENT Gallery are really excited to invite you to a hands-on workshop together with exhibiting artists Jen Datu and Colin Villapa Saturday 03 October 2-4 pm. In the workshop you will learn about the process of making an object into a pendant relic and make one yourself. The artists kindly request you to bring 1 personal keepsake (small, max palm-size and heat proof), all other materials will be provided.

Participants will be guided through soldering a pendant out of a small object, transforming it into a relic. Participants will learn copperfoiling, burnishing and soft soldering techniques.

Participants are invited to bring along a personal relic of their own, a beloved “junk” keepsake. Keeping in mind that you will be applying hot solder to your keepsake, it must be heat proof.

While making the pendant, participants will be asked to consider their relationship to mundane objects or trash, the sentimentality assigned to them, and the stories they hold as a means of personal mythmaking in
everyday life.
