We would like to share the chorus of our title track on this 25th anniversary of 9/11—to hold in our hearts the terror and tragedy of that day; and to acknowledge and celebrate the ways in which we have risen from the places where we have fallen.

May we remember those we lost, honor those who endured, and continue to find strength, connection, and hope in the years that follow. taken in New York City by @curtiserecords

This month’s @mojo4music magazine looks back 50 years to the recording of James Brown’s The Big Payback. Fred Thomas sits down with Mojo for an inside scoop. Also featured is mix engineer and more from the era, Bob Both. See their link for the full article.

- One correction from Fred to straighten out the timeline.

When James Brown walked in to Smalls Paradise to hear his band, called “The Flams”, that was their first meeting.

Mr. Brown wanted to hire the whole band, but had to take guitarist Hearlon Cheese Martin first to finish out a few concerts already on the books.

That’s why there is crossover with Cheese playing with Bootsy and Catfish in 1971 before Fred (and Jimmy Parker, also from the Flams) meet up under Fred Wesley to start rehearsing Mr. Brow’s show.
