(2) Curry leaf is an herb native to South India, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh that has been used for its citrus flavor, medicinal properties, and fresh aroma. It’s used in a variety of dishes from yogurt drinks, curries, dals, soups, chutneys, and more. This versatile herb can be used in many forms (grounded, whole, fresh) to add bright and sweet flavor to your pantry, and is a staple in Indian and Sri Lankan pantries.

Thank you to everyone who came to our opening reception for 🎨 THE ART OF BELONGING: Asian American Stories of Diaspora and Community Care. Here’s a little video of highlights from the reception—34 seconds of love and community!

We are honored by everyone who came to be in community with us. At a time when our histories are being erased, amplifying our voices and stories matter more than ever. By sharing the diverse stories of our communities, we are building trust, connection, and a future where we all feel safe and seen in our multiplicity.

💌 The exhibition highlights the oral histories of 11 patients of Asian Health Services (@asianhealthservices), with translation support from the Oakland Chinatown Oral History Project (OCOHP). Each story and accompanying artwork represent a distinct Asian language in which AHS provides medical, dental, and behavioral health care: Burmese, Cantonese, Karen, Khmer, Korean, Mandarin, Mien, Mongolian, Tagalog, Toisanese, and Vietnamese. The project was supported by California Humanities (@california_humanities), Figma (@figma), and Metta Fund.

Be sure to check out the ongoing exhibit, if you haven’t had the chance to check it out:

We’re proud to unveil an interactive sculptural artwork made by Cut Fruit Collective: The Wishing Tree!

The sculpture was lovingly created as a space for sharing memories and stories across cultures, languages, and generations within the AAPI community. Its design was loosely inspired by the graceful willow tree, which holds deep meaning in many Asian cultures. In Chinese traditions, the willow symbolizes springtime and renewal, and its flowing, intertwining branches often represent friendship and even the bittersweet feeling of parting.

While willow trees can be seen as symbols of mourning in some Western traditions, they are also widely embraced in Asia as emblems of patience, humility, flexibility, and resilience. We imagine the colorful wishes on our tree as its leaves—each one carrying a personal message—and the spaced-out branches as a way to invite everyone in, making it easy to read and reflect on the wishes shared.

You will be able to write and hang your own wish on the Wishing Tree at select Cut Fruit Collective events! The Wishing Tree will be a traveling sculpture where communities across the Bay Area can make a wish on the tree.

Special thanks to @signsbymeng @allthingsmeng @okayjeffrey @studio.trieu!
