POSTS STORIES REELS

We’re excited to welcome the @ashleyhuttonmusic Quartet to Cut Time this week! @bris.international.jazz.fest month has truly been good to us 🥳

The saxophonist behind the Primetime Sextet, Ash recently returned from three months at New York’s Tribeca Jazz Institute. With a deep love for the tradition, community, he brings plenty of swing, warmth, generosity and a voice of his own to the bandstand.

Come down for a listen, bring your instrument, voice, dog, and join us for some music together!

This Friday, 630-930pm, at @theburrowwestend ❤️‍🔥 by @cuttimejazzsessions

This Friday at Cut Time, continuing @bris.international.jazz.fest month, we’re thrilled to welcome the Dan Quigley Quartet! 🎺

A long-standing pillar of Brisbane’s jazz community and the wider Australian scene, Dan’s influence reaches far beyond the bandstand. Come hear his technical finesse, warm, soulful sound and storyteller’s instinct in full flight.

The quartet will kick things off with a first set, then open the bandstand for our usual sit-ins. Always at @theburrowwestend 630-930pm.

Come to listen, come to hang, or bring a tune and jump up!

Mic supplied. Bring your horns, your guitar leads, yourselves… see you there!?

Another great night of BIJF jazz around Brisbane last night, with Larman & Brothers at Ruby Jazz Club, Cut Time Sessions at The Burrow, and Will Sargisson Trio, Life on Earth and Sixth of the Sun bringing live jazz to Queen Street Mall!

And there’s plenty more happening tonight, with P63 featuring Angela Fabian, Dink at The Junk Bar and The Joe Rutledge Trio.

🎶 A very special concert coming up Monday 12 October!

The Unladylike Big Band takes to the stage at Brisbane Powerhouse for Queensland Stories, featuring original music by acclaimed Queensland composer Dr Rafael Karlen.

This is a particularly important project for BIJF. It’s about creating opportunities for our outstanding local musicians, commissioning and presenting original Australian jazz music in a major venue, and ensuring artists are paid for their work.

Led by Cassie Whitehead, the 17-piece Unladylike Big Band also plays a vital role in championing women and gender-diverse musicians in jazz.

And we’re especially excited that the Young Unladylike Big Band will open the evening, giving the next generation of jazz musicians the opportunity to perform on a major stage.

A great celebration of Queensland jazz, both now and into the future! by @cuttimejazzsessions

More BIJF goodness this week at Cut Time 💛

We’re excited to welcome @kaitechestermusic quartet this week. Fresh off the release of her debut album (check it out!). A familiar face on the Brisbane scene and a champion of welcoming Jazz sessions — come have a listen, bring a tune, or just settle in for the night.

Band:
@kaitechestermusic — voice
@mitchbellert — keys
Alex Askew — double bass
@osclangton — drum set

First set from the band, then sit-ins welcome.

Friday, 6:30–9:30pm at @theburrowwestend. See you there 🫶🏽 by @cuttimejazzsessions

Happy @bris.international.jazz.fest Month! 🎷

Cut Time are over the moon to be on this year’s program, bringing our usual session energy to the festival: good hangs, great music, and a bandstand built around listening, community and getting in amongst it 🫶🏽

Festivities begin this Friday with trumpeter, vocalist and bandleader @aly.ssa.sinclair fronting the session, joined by some of her incredible Swinging Smorgasbord crew.

Each Friday at @theburrowwestend this month will showcase a special featured group opening with a band set before the floor opens for sit-ins — a chance to hear jazz musicians cutting their teeth, swapping ideas and sharing the bandstand alongside some of the incredible players that make up this city’s jazz scene.

Come to listen, come to hang, or bring a tune and jump up with us.

See you there! x by @cuttimejazzsessions
