As the doors of @divingswallowtattoo prepare to close at the end of this month, I’m holding so much gratitude in my heart. My last day tattooing in this beautiful studio will be August 25th.

It’s been an incredible honor to tattoo in this space — a place built on care, intention, and deep artistic spirit. I’m endlessly thankful to @wolf.heart_ and @cedretattoos for welcoming me in — for their mentorship, trust, and the space to grow in such an inspiring environment.

To all the artists I’ve had the privilege of working alongside — thank you. Your presence, your passion, and your kindness have shaped me more than you know. Every shared moment, conversation, and quiet exchange left an imprint. You’ve helped me become not only a stronger artist, but a fuller version of myself.

To the community that has filled these walls— vibrant, fierce, and full of heart — thank you for letting me be a part of something rare and meaningful.

I’ll be tattooing at Diving Swallow one final time on August 25th. I have limited availability, and my DMs are open if you’d like to book custom or flash (some examples on second slide).

With all my love and deepest thanks to everyone who made this place what it was— and what it will continue to be, in all of us who carry it forward.

Thank you 🖤 by @cuyatattoos

Maracuya Montoya Thayer, Radicalized by Love

On Christmas Eve, 2009, my father and I agarramos camino para los Estados Unidos. During a month-long journey across El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, and the United States South, I would come to witness comradery, kinship, perseverance, and ultimately be radicalized by love.
On the left I’ve depicted my life in El Salvador. Central to the print is a heart in hands symbolizing the essential need to be in touch with my humanity to endure. Within the heart are migrants helping each other across.
Love, and the generosity of the human spirit are the primary reasons I am here today. Symbolized by the people carved within the heart, making it through is treacherous, and only made possible by individual acts of resistance.

Maracuya Montoya Thayer, Gathering

I created this print to give gratitude to the oral traditions that keep our cultures alive. Gathering in song and beat at the drum, gathering for storytelling on the porch, honoring the cosmovisión our antepasados have passed down to us through their interpretations of our natural world to gather ourselves whole.

Inspired by creation stories that intertwine our lives with that of all other organisms.

I want to thank Wakan Wiya Two Spirit Drum, drum keeper Zamora, Timumachtikan Nawat, Nantzin Sixta Pérez, and Tamachtiani Hector Martínez. by @cuyatattoos

I’m Maracuya Montoya Thayer (they/he/el), a trans migrant from the coastal town of Acajutla, Kuskatan, known as El Salvador. QAP resists has given me an opportunity to create work that threads personal memory with collective legacy while simultaneously solidifying my identity as an artist. Influenced by my own experience crossing the border as a child, being steeped in fierce grassroots organizing in the U.S. South, and being bolstered by the embrace of chosen family on new ground, I seek to create work that explores themes of immigration, queer family building, and the preservation of ancestral cosmo vision. I incorporate elements from creation stories passed down to me by elders to bring my culture and ancestry into a broader context of queer history, artistic traditions, and social change. Despite it being a new medium, carving linoleum has been a ritual of remembrance for me and a practice in collective visioning alongside my cohort. A sacred opportunity to sit with my angels and ghosts, side by side with others who carry with them their own.
