Hurricanes suck. Blue marlin do not. While we wait for #hurricaneisaias to make landfall here on the gulf coast, here’s some Cape Verde blues on the pitch. I love when the trolling motor gets in on the action lol. I cut the cast a hair shorter and that extra line will always find something 😂 #jackcrevalle #fishalabama #cayoboatworks #gloomis #hardyflyfishing @cayoboatworks @aftco @gloomisfly @hardyfishing @jmtackle @scientificanglers 📸 @ericanewsthomas by @cvecsey_fishing

I had a ridiculously good time the past week in Michigan with a great group of friends. We caught a lot of really nice fish, but this particular one was epic and took some teamwork.

Jimmy and I started working a good group of fish and this big male moved into the bed. It took a lot of casting, and a few snags to get to this fish, but he finally ate the fly. The fish ran hard upriver, then charged back down and somehow a loop of the shooting line wrapped through the spool onto the handle. I still don’t understand how. I quickly took the spool off while Jimmy kept tension on the line with his hands lol. Cleared the loose loops, popped the spool back on and got tight again. Then he ran me into a tree as soon as I tried pressuring him again 🤦🏻‍♂️ . I’m see-sawing on a couple limbs and expecting a break off, it’s inevitable at this point. Then I feel the pop and I used the “F” word a few times. But the line starts running again; somehow the branches broke. My heart skipped a beat 😮‍💨 . The fight was back on, he “seemed” cooperative…then he runs 90-100yds downriver, nearly into a log jam. I know the distance because he had all 80yds of shooting line off of the spool and well into backing.

Through some miracle, the 12lb tippet was still holding and after the 35 minute battle, the fish was close. Jimmy waded downriver from it and made a plunge in that cold-ass water and bear-hugged the fish!

There was a lot of celebratory howling, fist bumps, and now poor Jimmy is soaked lol. Complete chaos…it was perfect 🤘🏼

@cvecsey_fishing testing the @shoreprotackle DDST 50 with @dtbcharters in a magical spot - had to settle with an AJ on this drop but this trip is one for the books and the full video is dropping Sunday 10am 🤌 #fishing #deepdrop #amberjack #fishingislife by @cvecsey_fishing

I will NEVER forget this one! A 100lb class cubera snapper, a true fish of a lifetime for me and it was released to fight again. A GIANT thank you to @dtbcharters for once again putting us in the right place at the right time for epic opportunities. Another huge thanks to @noah_callais for sticking it out all night and not letting me give up! Persistence pays off and you’ve gotta KEEP SENDING! #cuberasnapper #lutjanuscyanopterus #catchandrealease #dtbcharters #aftco @dtbcharters @jygprofishing @aftco @jmtackle @bkkhooks_americas @shoreprotackle by @cvecsey_fishing

Pictures cannot do this species justice. The African hind is one of the coolest, most beautiful fish I’ve ever caught. The way the red, orange and neon-blue accents pop, then somehow blend together, made this fish look unreal in the water. It was almost like an animation. #africanhind #cephalopholistaeniops #capeverde #aftco @aftco @dreaminonworldtour @jmtackle by @cvecsey_fishing

Alabama snook. Prior to 2021, I had caught maybe 4 snook here in my home state. In the last few years I’ve caught nearly 200, and have caught them in almost every local waterway. “One big cold front will kill them all” many said, but after a few very cold winters, including the biggest snowfall and 30 degree water temps, these fish are thriving and their population continues to grow. Who knows what we could see in a few more years? #snook #centropomusundecimalis @ngomsnookresearchteam @aftco @jmtackle @best_fishing_report @cayoboatworks by @cvecsey_fishing

Too many pics to post here, but what an unbelievable time last week with the @dreaminonworldtour in Cape Verde. We fished hard, ate like kings, did a heavy bit of laughing and had a lifetime experience. I can’t thank Captain Randy and the Keinath family enough for having me along. #epic #dreaminonworldtour #marlinfishing #offshorefishing #travelingangler by @cvecsey_fishing
