Go behind the scenes of the shoot that brought this Central Valley chef’s story to life. ❤️🍴
Chef Danielle Coombs is a chef before she is any other title. Two-day preps. 19-hour dinner services. A million-plus followers who only see about 10% of the real thing.
For our Cuisine Issue, we spent the day on set with Chef D and got the other 90%: the quiet before the shot, Central Valley stone fruit on the counter, the laughs, and the Modesto kid who grew up handwriting recipes off Food Network and now cooks for the people who grow the food.
“It is the biggest flex to serve my clients the food they grow. It feels like a full-circle moment.”
Inside, she opens up about the four seconds of butter that reached 27 million people, the loss that stopped her cold, and what it took to start cooking from her heart again.

Some of the most beautiful things start as a lump of clay. In our Arts & Culture issue, we’re inside the Fresno studio of Good Dirt Collective, where co-founders Christy Manning, Kasey Jackson, and Jorden Collins are doing more than throwing pottery; they’re helping young women who’ve aged out of foster care rebuild their futures, one mug and one paycheck at a time.
“We believe in second, third, or even fourth chances.” That’s the heart of Mud Girls, their year-long vocational program pairing paid employment with grace-based mentorship. Every handcrafted piece that comes out of their kiln carries two stories: one of exceptional craftsmanship, and one of resilience.
