POSTS STORIES REELS

Close to my home sat an old, lonely house that always drew my attention. I finally stopped one late September day and wandered around the yard with my camera. Even though the day was bright and sunny, the air around the remains of this home was cool and still. It had it’s own aura; kind of quiet, solemn, forlorn.
A door toward the back of the house lay half open, exposing a large hole in the floor of what was once a kitchen. The house was obviously on the verge of collapse. As I took my pictures, I dismissed the uneasy tension creeping up my spine, feeling a bit childish for even allowing myself to have this sensation. With my back to the house, camera on a small shed in the yard, the half-opened side door suddenly swung wide open behind me. My heart leapt into my throat as I turned and faced the house.
There was no wind.
There was no breeze.
There was only a feeling of not being alone in the yard anymore.
It was definitely time to go. I sucked up my fear and calmly walked past the now wide-open door, toward the front of the house where my car was parked, all the time listening to my heart thumping loudly in my chest.
That was three years ago that I roamed around that yard. I went by that house just the other day only to find it had collapsed on to itself into a pile of rubble.
An uneasy tension slowly crept up my spine.

“ Reading “It” ”
My daughter and I had decided to read Stephen King’s “It” for Halloween, and being such a long story, we started reading at the end of August with hopes of finishing by November. This also has lead to all my photo ideas being “It” related, so I went with it. I wanted to create a dark mood to go along with the horror genre of the book, using some elements of the story like the red balloon. Set up in the dining room, which tends to be darker than other rooms in my house. Placed a continuous light to one side and a black background. The side light in hopes of creating some atmospheric shadows and enhance the fear factor emotion that goes with the story.

“ Shake It Off ”
💦🐶💦
Our dog, Gizmo, LOVES to swim, and he is always so sad when the pool gets closed. There may be one more week left before we start closing it, but at least he can swim until then. Took a bunch of photos of him around the pool, hoping for some interesting light and/or textures that would convert well to black and white. Decided on the 1st image with the texture from Gizmo’s wet fur and all the droplets as he shook off the water. For the rest of the images, I played around with different edits, color and bnw, and the last image (12) is SOOC. Hope you enjoy the wet dog smiles and have a great week everyone!

“ Summer’s End ”
One last summer shot for Labor Day weekend and the reflection theme for 52 Frames. Inspired by a painting I saw of a woman wearing a large hat relaxing in front of a pool of blue water. Did a little repositioning so the hat would reflect in the pool; and yup, dipped the hat in the pool while setting up. I used a platypod set on the opposite side of the pool with a 60-600 mm lens to get a closer shot. Had some issues with leveling the platypod and keeping the connection to the remote app on my phone. Ended up shooting the image wide and cropping instead, but in the end, I’m happy with the results. Hope you like it too. Enjoy your week!
