Réformes de façade, cooptation, surveillance numérique : comment les régimes du Moyen-Orient et d’Afrique du Nord ont réinventé leur autoritarisme 📝

Le Printemps arabe de 2011 a fait naître un immense espoir de démocratie et de justice sociale, mais de nombreux régimes du Moyen-Orient et d’Afrique du Nord ont su se réinventer pour conserver leur pouvoir. Entre réformes de façade, surveillance numérique et stratégies de division de l’opposition, l’autoritarisme s’est adapté aux défis du XXIe siècle. Cette résilience s’explique aussi par des héritages institutionnels issus de la période coloniale et par des économies de rente qui affaiblissent la reddition de comptes démocratique. Contrairement aux idées reçues, le déficit démocratique de la région n’est pas lié à l’islam, mais à des facteurs politiques, économiques et géopolitiques. Malgré la répression, les causes profondes du mécontentement populaire — chômage, corruption et inégalités — demeurent intactes. La jeunesse et les femmes continuent ainsi d’incarner les principales forces de changement pour l’avenir.

I was in the house of activist Issa Amro on 4 February 2025, when I was arrested by 4 soldiers from the Israeli occupying forces for taking a pro-Palestinian stance in Al Khalil in the occupied West Bank.

The voices of those living under occupation have been silenced, as have the voices of those trying to relay the message.

But I’m not a danger to anyone, and I only see myself as an peaceful activist for the Palestinian cause and against colonisation.

It’s all about defending and relaying the voice of the Palestinians, of those who live under occupation, of those whose daily lives are controlled by the goodwill of the Israeli army of occupation.
No pressure, no threat will ever silence me when it comes to supporting those who fight with dignity and resilience against occupation and colonisation.

The era of dictatorial and colonial absolutism imposed by the extreme right-wing government in Israel can no longer stifle the Palestinian people's need for freedom and emancipation.
Revolutionary insurrection is now an obligation for the Palestinian people in order to achieve progress.
In this progress, I see the annihilation of the Israeli colonial entity, whether you like it or not, this can only be the sole end.
There is no way that the two peoples can live together within an Israeli state and/or two states because one of the peoples has been oppressed for decades by an institutionalised and legalised racist system.
The political deadlock in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict can only lead to the loss and demise of the Israeli colonial entity.
The colonial and racist mentality of the Zionists will not be able to cope with successive revolutions, which unfortunately are a necessary evil in this conflict.

Nevertheless, history shows us that revolution necessarily implies disorder, and we must fight to ensure that the future order is stable and does not give way to another dictatorial system.
