There's a lot of new faces here the past few weeks and that calls for an updated introduction! I'm Chelsea, Esthetician of 22 years and owner of @thecollective.wellness in El Paso, Texas. I specialize in treating acne, and find true joy in clearing my clients' skin and helping them regain their confidence. This is the side of Instagram where we take the guesswork out of skincare, simplify our routines, and take care of ourselves on the inside just as much as we do on the outside. We also juggle wellness, lifestyle, and the behind the scenes of building a business while still trying to be a normal person. Welcome to CW, I'm so glad you're here! taken in El Paso, Texas by @cwesthetics

You’re allowed to be frustrated with your acne.

You’re allowed to be tired of trying new products, spending money, and wondering why your skin still isn’t cooperating.

You’re allowed to feel discouraged when you wake up with another breakout.

And you’re allowed to want clear skin without feeling guilty for caring about your appearance.

Acne doesn’t define you, but that doesn’t mean it can’t affect you.

You deserve support, answers, and a little more kindness toward yourself along the way.

If you needed this reminder today, you’re not alone. by @cwesthetics

Retinol or azelaic acid?

Both are great ingredients, but they don’t do the same thing. And choosing the right one really comes down to what you’re trying to accomplish with your skin.

Dealing with redness, inflamed breakouts, or stubborn dark spots? Azelaic acid might deserve a spot in your routine.

More concerned with fine lines, uneven texture, or signs of sun damage? Retinol might make more sense.

After 20+ years as an esthetician, one thing I wish more people understood is that good skincare isn’t about using more ingredients. It’s about using the right ones.

Save this for the next time you’re tempted to add another active to your routine. by @cwesthetics

Fragrance in skincare might be one of the most misunderstood topics in the beauty industry.

Some people will tell you fragrance is toxic and should be avoided at all costs. Others will tell you it’s completely harmless.

As usual, the truth is somewhere in the middle.

Fragrance isn’t automatically bad for your skin. But it also isn’t necessary, and for some people, it can be a source of irritation or allergic reactions.

And here’s something worth understanding: Just because your skin tolerates fragrance today doesn’t mean you can’t develop a sensitivity to it later. by @cwesthetics

Mandelic acid or glycolic acid?

They’re both alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), but that doesn’t mean they’re interchangeable.

Mandelic acid is often a great option for acne-prone skin, uneven tone, and those who need a gentler approach to exfoliation.

Glycolic acid is known for helping improve rough texture, dullness, and the appearance of fine lines and discoloration.

Here’s what I want you to understand: Stronger doesn’t automatically mean better.

The best exfoliating acid isn’t necessarily the one that works the fastest or makes your skin tingle the most. It’s the one that addresses YOUR skin concerns without compromising your skin barrier.

Save this for the next time you’re trying to decide between the two.

Korean skincare has introduced a lot of us to ingredients we weren’t necessarily hearing about a few years ago. And some of them are absolutely worth paying attention to.

But just because an ingredient is trending in K-beauty doesn’t automatically mean your skin needs it.

What I love about many Korean skincare formulations is their focus on hydration, barrier support, and keeping skin comfortable and healthy.

And while the ingredients might be new to YOU, that doesn’t necessarily mean they’re new to skincare.

As an esthetician, I want you to understand what these ingredients actually do, who they’re best suited for, and whether they deserve a place in your routine.

Because good skincare isn’t about using what’s popular. It’s about using what makes sense for your skin.

Save this one for the next time you’re shopping for Korean skincare, and follow for more ingredient education without the hype. by @cwesthetics

Dry skin can use this cleanser, too, but just less frequently. Active Clarity has the perfect balance between active ingredients and barrier-support so that you can feel a difference in your skin without over-stripping. Ask us if this new cleanser would be a good addition to your routine! by @cwesthetics

If your skin is oily, acne-prone, or constantly dealing with clogged pores, these two ingredients might deserve a spot in your routine.

Salicylic acid helps exfoliate inside your pores, while niacinamide helps support your skin barrier and can help regulate excess oil.

Together, they can be a great combination for managing breakouts without neglecting your skin’s barrier.

BUT (because there’s always a but in skincare 😂) more isn’t always better.

Not everyone tolerates niacinamide well, especially in higher concentrations. And using salicylic acid too frequently can leave your skin irritated and dehydrated.

The goal isn’t to use as many acne-fighting ingredients as possible. It’s to find the right combination for YOUR skin. by @cwesthetics

Somewhere along the way, social media convinced us that completely normal things about our skin were problems that needed fixing.

Pores. Texture. Fine lines. Uneven skin tone. Things that have always been part of having HUMAN skin.

As an esthetician of over 20 years, I’m all for taking care of your skin, treating concerns, and helping you feel confident.

But there’s a difference between improving your skin’s health and chasing a version of perfection that doesn’t actually exist.

You can love skincare without hating your skin. ❤️ by @cwesthetics
