Dropped our girl off at college yesterday. College! So excited for her next expansive chapter, but the drive home without her was hard #umassamherst

Join us for Children’s Story Time with award-winning author Casey W. Robinson on Saturday, 8/8 at 11:00 a.m. at Ten Trees Books!

Casey will be reading her latest picture book, Small Things Mended, which is a New England Book Award winner, a Christopher Award winner, a Crystal Kite Award winner, and received a 2025 Massachusetts Book Award Honor. It was also chosen for SLJ’s Best Picture Books 2024 list.

Kindly Cecil has a broken heart, but when the kids in his neighborhood start asking him to fix their valuables—a music box, a watch, a stuffed elephant—he gradually finds that he knows just how to do this mending. And in return, his circle of new friends offers the mending that his own heart needs.

This gentle, kindhearted story brings the generations of a community together to sustain and enrich one another, and it beautifully showcases the value of fixing things―and loving their history―rather than quickly discarding them.

Kids Graphic Novel Festival 2026 in the books! Thank you to our graphic novel loving community for showing up in droves despite the gray skies. And thank you to these creators who came in from all over the country to spend the day with kids and books — you fill our hearts with so much joy.

You know that creative friend you have that says “Oh I can come up with something” no matter what the wild idea or scenario or ask? That’s @islandreaderswriters . Look at the details @lisa.t.herrington pulled together for the Small Things Mended themed table at the Literacy Tea Fundraiser for Literacy Volunteers of Bangor. That pocket watch in the glass was one her mum carried! And not only did they sponsor a table for the tea, they created a mending clinic for guests’ stuffies 🥹

The annual Marvin & Sheri Glazier Literacy Tea fundraiser hosted by Literacy Volunteers of Bangor is a spectacular event. This was my first time attending though I’d heard about it for years. Every table is book themed! And the creative displays every year are incredible! The Small Things Mended table created by @islandreaderswriters was so incredible, in fact, I decided it deserves its own separate post 😍

Thank you so much Literacy Volunteers of Bangor for inviting me to be a part of things this year. I was truly honored to be there.
