Congratulations to the Spartan men on an amazing performance at the All-Ohio Challenge this past Friday! 🌟

Senior Jacob Slater had a historic performance, becoming the first Spartan in program history to win the overall individual championship at the All-Ohio Challenge. Slater won the men’s 8K in 25:01.2, finishing 7.9 seconds ahead of the runner-up. He was also named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division III National Athlete of the Week.

The Spartans claimed the Division III Team Championship, with a team score of 39 points in the DIII standings, well ahead of second-place Denison (62 points) and third-place Ohio Northern (80 points).

Leading the way for the Spartan men: 1. Jacob Slater — 1st overall | 25:01.2 2. Donovan Crowley — 6th overall | 25:29.4 3. Adam Esa — 26th overall | 26:09.9 4. Kian Schneeweis — 38th overall | 26:22.8 5. Brendan Bradish — 44th overall | 26:30.9

Congratulations to the Spartan women on a wonderful performance at the All-Ohio Challenge this past Friday! 💫

Shoutout to sophomore Reid Smith, who was named Spartan Athlete of the Week after leading the Spartans across the finish line for the first time in her career. Smith placed 20th overall out of 324 runners and fourth among Division III competitors with a time of 23:19.3.

The Spartans claimed the Division III Team Championship with 54 points, finishing 10 points ahead of runner-up Mount Union.

SPORTS | The 2026 season has begun for the Case Western Reserve University men’s and women’s cross country teams, and the teams find themselves in different paths: the men’s team returns several upperclassmen and looks to build upon their progress from past years, while the women’s team enters a rebuilding phase anchored by an underclassmen-heavy team. Sports Editor Abhishek Nambiar delves into the circumstances for both teams and how each of them aim to have a successful 2026 effort.

“The men’s team is fortunate to have many returning members, including a number of key upperclassmen from last year’s team. Among them are third-year Donovan Crowley and fourth-year and team co-captain Jacob Slater, both of whom qualified for the NCAA championship last year.

Conversely, the women’s team finds itself in a rebuilding phase. After graduating six seniors this past year, the Spartans welcome two first-years to a squad consisting of seven second-years, three third-years and a single fourth-year.

Both teams will get their next chance to make progress towards their goals with their next two events: the Alumni Race at the University Farm on Saturday, Sept. 12 and the All-Ohio Challenge in Cedarville, Ohio on Friday, Sept. 18.”
