A 🇺🇦-🇳🇱 girl showing you her world through shadows and colors. #cyanotype

My spontaneous July project - an amateur pocket book 📕 with my cyanotypes of Hong Kong. Selected images I’ve made during visits to this favourite place of mine in 2016-2024 - they bring me back to the vibrant Pearl of the Orient 🇭🇰 I will reveal the contents of my Hong Kong pocket book in the next Reels, stay tuned 💙 by @cyan.oli
Lately I’ve started experimenting with metal leaves - @kindredcameras inspired me with their paper kintsugi work, where golden leaf contrasts with blue depth of cyanotype. In my case I am exploring which emotion or impression red and silver reflections convey - what’s your take on it? by @cyan.oli

I did not feel happy when creating “classical” Reels here. Rapid videos, quick likes and people who spend 8 seconds on it. I asked myself - how can one spend only 8 seconds to learn about the process or appreciate the artistic piece? I also realised that I DO NOT want to contribute to quick dopamine addiction that social media imposed on humanity. I do not need quick likes. I am looking for someone who will pause. Zoom in to see the detail. Slow down in the crazy pace of modern life. If this resonates with you - welcome in my safe space 🫂 #slowart #cyanotype #cyanotypeprint #japanart #analoguevibes by @cyan.oli
Lately I’ve been doing dozens of tests, preparing materials for my concept. Cyanotypes are a tough journey because of the amount of unique variables where things can go wrong or be different. Different brush? Suddenly all paper fibers are visible. Different water? (Tap/distilled) or water temperature? Obviously, paper, transparency paper for negatives, type of your printer and ink; and many more 😰 Here’s is a sunset over mt.Fuji whose shadow embraces evening Tokyo 🤍 by @cyan.oli

Enter the portal, leave all mundane behind and join kami to contemplate together. Nezu shrine, Tokyo, 2018, #cyanotype on red paper (testing new with Ingres texture - works, but is quite thin) by @cyan.oli
Night streets of the infamous Kabukicho area in Tokyo, 2018. Loud, crowded and lit - still leaving a space for you to observe shadows, what’s beyond tanned windows and hidden behind the shine. Cyanotype on BFK Rives, oxidized and washed with a dash of citric acid to get that beautiful vivid Prussian blue💙 by @cyan.oli
Contemplating on modern societies and beauty - while we might be divided by how we treat knowledge and what we do with technology, perceiving the Beauty is a universal human trait. Here, the beauty of rare sight - late Meiji era buildings in Takaoka, Japan. by @cyan.oli
Lets talk color paper (and me with katana 😅). Specifically, shades of red 🔴. To me artistically red color amplifies the form, a silhouette and adds to the meaning - it’s bold, it’s questioning, it’s about emotions that boil deep inside. On the practical side of cyanotype, I give you an example of red paper that WORKS and that DOESN’T. Funny enough - same paper, just two different shades. First one (red orange) absorbs the solution, while the second (red) doesn’t - it simply washes away. Hence, second pic is an example of bad cyanotype ❌ if you have this result with your color paper - keep searching! by @cyan.oli
