took a break from throwing to try slab casting again, this time with a thin layer of sodium silicate and a heat gun to ease my impatience 😁

(wip greenware) trying out red mason stain slip on the outside. also trying altered rims for the pitchers - something I've avoided because it won't fit a pour over cone as nicely... but I love how elegant they look 🤤

now to agonize over what glaze to use 🫠 by @cyan_lambda_ceramics

first time doing a wood fire ❤️‍🔥

the high heat, flame, and ash combine to paint brilliant patches of orange and wrinkly tans across this bare, unglazed porcelain (save for the green underglaze).

before firing i had no idea what the robe would look like - it's all up to the position in the kiln and the way the flames lick across the piece during the days-long firing.

wood firings like this really capture everything i love about ceramics: the volatility, the beauty in imperfections, and the connection to primitive crafts and materials.
