A little over a year ago I went on a road trip with my teenage son, and spent about three hours telling him that social media was problematic. You should avoid it, I said. It’s a waste of time and energy, I lectured. Don’t do it, I harangued. Then, in a moment of blinding clarity, I disabled my social media accounts. There and then. Instagram: disabled. Substack: deleted. Facebook: gone! Everything went except LinkedIn (which, let’s face it, can barely be called social media and in no way calls me to my phone in the dead of night. I dare you to find someone who doomscrolls LinkedIn). Now, please witness me, officially, falling off the wagon. Send me your memes, friends. Send me your recipes, Collis. Send me things you think I should buy online, mum! I’m back from the desert… and I am thirsty!!! by @cyanctaeed

The man in the centre of this photo is @b.g.s_fitness and he taught me how to lift weights and fuel my body. He is a legend with a gigantic heart (made all the more gigantic with strategic assault bike sessions… maybe. Actually I don’t know if hearts are supposed to get bigger or not. Either way, excellent human). It is his birthday. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COACH!!
Also pictured, @there_but_for_the_grace, who made me come to the gym with her when I didn’t know how yet, which was literally life changing. What a friend! I’m forever grateful. I MISS YOU BOTH!!! by @cyanctaeed

Just found this photo from the night I met Collis. I can’t remember if I was photographing the Shapes and he just happened to be in shot, or if I was already obsessed with him after fifteen minutes and was just pretending to photograph a snack food. I suspect it was the latter! by @cyanctaeed

The fifth Optimists Documentary Club was last night, and I am now firmly of the opinion that if more people got together to watch documentaries, eat chocolate, then be optimistic together, the world would be a far better place. I didn’t expect to love it so much, yet here we are!! by @cyanctaeed

Iceland was so amazing and I’m still processing it all. I went to a writers retreat which made me even more excited to finish writing this novel, so I’m back in the office today, jet lagged as anything, reading and editing my draft. Even if all I do is I finish it and print out fifty copies to give to the people I love, that will feel like an incredible victory. Then I’ll write another. And hopefully another after that. The big takeaway of the @icelandwriters conference is that I have realised that I REALLY love and respect other writers, and geeking out in a room of them feels more like home than tech ever did. Writers—all of them weirdos and obsessives with so many feelings and ideas and impractical, ridiculous passions—are my people. To be clear I’ve worked with a lot of unbelievably spectacular people over the years (you all know who you are), but a room full of writers? Well, it just feels like where I was always supposed to end up… which is a pretty nice discovery! by @cyanctaeed
