Seven days. Seven souls. One beautiful Alpine escape.

My Austrian Alps Soul Rest Retreat is officially open for registration!

October 17–23, 2027

One week when nobody needs anything from you.

Imagine waking up to the Austrian Alps, breathing in the crisp autumn air, and knowing that, for an entire week, your only responsibility is to yourself.

This is an invitation for people who carry a lot. Those who spend much of their lives showing up for others and rarely have the opportunity to simply be.

Come experience the Alps through the eyes of a local. Let me show you my Austrian stomping grounds!

We’ll stay at a beautiful family-run organic farm, surrounded by mountains and the colors of autumn.

Our days will include gentle hikes, gondola rides with breathtaking Alpine views, thermal baths, sound healing, and nature-based workshops exploring self-trust, connection, and becoming your own secure base.

And plenty of unstructured time. No pressure to participate in everything. No expectations to be anything other than yourself.

As a clinical psychologist and Montessori educator, I’ve spent decades exploring how our environments shape our sense of safety, connection, and well-being. This retreat brings that work into the natural world.

Just seven guest spaces. An intentionally small, personal experience with room for meaningful connection, solitude, and everything in between.

If the Alps are calling, I’d love to share this experience with you.

Five nights on a private island, with nature, movement, sound, exploration, good food, meaningful connection, and something I think we need more of: choice.

Come as you are. Join what calls to you. Rest when you need to. Let the environment do some of the work.

The film gives you a glimpse.

Hello and welcome- I’m so glad you found me here 🌺 by @cycredentialed

It’s November.

Somewhere, someone is already making a list of everything everyone else needs.

The holiday meals. The travel arrangements. The gifts. The family dynamics. Who’s coming, who’s not coming, and who’s going to be upset about either.

And somehow, the person holding all of this together is often the last person on the list.

As a psychologist, I see how easily caring turns into overfunctioning. We anticipate needs before they’re expressed, manage other people’s discomfort, and mistake being indispensable for being connected.

Research on stress and recovery reminds us that rest isn’t simply the absence of work. We also need opportunities to mentally step away from responsibility.

That becomes difficult when we’re still managing everyone else’s needs in our heads.

My Montessori background taught me the importance of a prepared environment. An environment should support the people in it, not require one person to exhaust themselves maintaining it.

Maybe that’s worth remembering as we head into the holidays.

What would November look like if you prepared a little space for yourself, too?

Karin

A little distance can change your perspective.

I’ve spent the past week in Austria, celebrating my dad’s 92nd birthday, visiting family, wandering through familiar places, riding trains, and enjoying something I don’t always get enough of.

Unstructured time.

Not every hour needed a purpose. Not every moment needed to be productive. And not every day needed a plan.

There’s something restorative about having enough space to notice what you actually need.

As I head home today, I’m reminded that rest isn’t always about doing less. Sometimes it’s about having fewer demands placed on our attention.

And perhaps that’s something worth bringing home with us.

When was the last time you had a day that didn’t need anything from you?

October 26. Austria’s National Day. 🇦🇹

Growing up in Austria, this was always an important day. But the older I get, the more I appreciate what it actually represents.

After World War II, Austria spent ten years under Allied occupation. The country was divided into four zones, controlled by the United States, Britain, France, and the Soviet Union.

Even Vienna was divided into sectors.

Imagine living in your own country and needing identification documents to move between certain areas of your own capital.

My parents lived through that period. For their generation, the occupation wasn’t something they read about in a history book. It was everyday life.

On May 15, 1955, Austria signed the State Treaty that restored its sovereignty. The occupation ended later that year, and on October 26, Austria declared its permanent neutrality.

That’s the date we celebrate today.

For me, this isn’t about nationalism or believing one country is better than another. Austria’s history is complicated, and we must never forget the suffering caused by the Nazi regime, nor Austria’s part in that history.

It’s about remembering how easily freedom can be lost, how much it takes to regain it, and why we shouldn’t take it for granted.

I think it’s important that younger generations understand this history, especially as the people who experienced it firsthand grow older.

Standing here in Salzburg, the city where I grew up, I feel particularly grateful for the freedoms my generation inherited.

Freedom isn’t something we should ever take for granted.

Happy National Day, Austria.

Breaking news: Apparently, the world keeps spinning when you stop managing it.

Who knew?

A little Salzburg sunshine, autumn colors, and a reminder that not everything requires my immediate attention.

The sheep seem to have figured this out years ago.

When was the last time you gave yourself permission to be unavailable?

Apparently, being dependable now comes with a 24/7 customer service agreement.

No one remembers signing it.

Welcome to urgency culture, where unanswered texts become personal offenses, someone else’s poor planning becomes your problem, and being available gets confused with being caring.

For people who are used to carrying a lot, that sense of urgency can become automatic. The phone rings, someone sounds upset, and your nervous system is already halfway into rescue mode.

That’s overfunctioning. And it can become a remarkably exhausting habit.

Here’s the thing. You can be loving, reliable, and a secure base for others without being permanently on call.

Some things can wait. Some people can figure things out. And some emergencies are simply someone else’s discomfort with hearing, “Not right now.”

Before you jump, ask yourself: Is this truly urgent, or have I just become everyone’s favorite first responder?

This week, I’m spending time in my hometown of Salzburg, Austria, surrounded by the unapologetic drama of fall.

I’m grateful to be back with family, breathing in a season I’ve always loved, and one that has something to say.

Autumn doesn’t ask permission to change. It doesn’t cling to what’s fading. It lets go loudly, beautifully, and on time.

After years of working with people who carry everyone else’s needs, I know how quickly responsibility can become an identity. I recognize that trap because I’ve lived in it too.

But not everything is yours to fix. Not every crisis is yours to manage. Not every burden deserves a permanent place on your back.

The trees don’t negotiate with the season. They turn brilliant, then release what they can no longer carry.

Maybe we should take the hint.

You can love people without rescuing them. You can be grateful without staying stuck. You can care deeply and still put something down.

What are you done carrying this fall?

One of the things Montessori understood so well was the importance of learning through direct experience.

Children don’t simply absorb information by being told about the world. They explore it through movement, observation, repetition, and their senses.

And that relationship with our surroundings doesn’t disappear in adulthood.

Think about the places you remember most vividly.

Sometimes it’s not the grandest view or the most extraordinary destination.

It’s the sound of something familiar. The smell of the air. A conversation you didn’t expect to have. Something you discovered while wandering.

The environment becomes part of the memory.

Perhaps that’s one of the things I love most about travel.

We come home with more than photographs.
