POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Who is John Hegwood? 🏀

John Hegwood was born & raised in Gary, Indiana. While spending countless hours working towards his goals, he was recruited to play post secondary at the University of San Francisco, winning two West Coast Conference Championships before embarking on a multi-faceted athletic career. Drafted by both the San Diego Clippers and the Toronto Blue Jays, Hegwood showcased his versatility across basketball and baseball. He would eventually decide to focus primarily on basketball and his journey extended internationally, as he spent seven formidable years playing in Argentina before joining the Calgary 88s.

Transitioning seamlessly into coaching, Hegwood served as an assistant coach for the Calgary 88s, Calgary Outlaws, and the Mount Royal College Cougars, imparting his wisdom and expertise to aspiring athletes. Beyond his athletic contributions, Coach Hegwood founded the club programs CYDC Basketball & JH Elite, a testament to his commitment to youth development. Recognized for his outstanding community involvement both on and off the court, Hegwood was honored with Calgary’s Citizen of the Year award in 2009, solidifying his legacy as both a remarkable athlete and a dedicated community leader.

If you’ve ever been in the gym with Coach John you’ve heard at least one of the many stories he’s passed onto our athletes, and you can’t help but feel inspired! As we step into the spring season of Calgary basketball, it’s important to recognize individuals like himself, so families can feel confident entrusting our program with their children.

CYDC BHL Program! 🏀

It’s been all smiles, learning, and basketball with our BHL Sr. athletes!

Our young players have been having a blast on the court while learning the fundamentals of the game from our amazing coaches. From building new skills to gaining confidence and learning how to work as a team, it’s been great watching their growth each week!

Most importantly, we’re creating a fun environment where kids can learn, compete, make friends, and develop a love for basketball. ❤️🏀

Keep working, keep learning, and keep having FUN!

Hebron & Bomi Are A Devastating Duo 🔥‼️
•
•
Playing with both CYDC Elite and JH Elite, these guys show why they are some of the top talent in the province. It’s amazing being able to see these two guys play together to showcase their talent and skill.
•
•
Hebron is a silky smooth player that can play at any position at any level. Starting off in our BHL Sr. program, Hebron has a skill set that will leave you in awe. He’s able to create his own shot at will and knock down shots on all areas of the floor. His finishing package is also unlimited, making him a threat on all levels 🔥
•
•
Bomi is a fierce guard that can find multiple ways to score. With his smooth jumper off the dribble and his ability to slash the lane, defenders have no option but to keep focus on him. His physicality on the defensive side of the floor is a scary thing for most. But one of our favourite things about Bomi is his communication on the floor - causing disturbances on defence as well as being a floor general on offence 😤

CYDC U17 Taylor x @ptsportsco_east

Ontario Basketball Festival (June 6th/7th)

Getting to travel within Canada for high level competition was a privilege !

Jack Blakney walked away with the @ptsportsco Player of the Game Award after our final win against @durham.basketballclub

Dan Zemp came home with the Tournament MVP after averaging:
10.25 PPG, 3RP & 2.25 APG across his four contests.

It’s a blessing getting to work with all of these young men, they all WORK HARD. And that’s why they’re a part of the #FAMILY @cydcbasketball by @cydcbasketball
