C💓therine Forever - - - Fuck ! Tu va nous manquer terriblement... t'est partie trop tôt ! Tu a toujours été une grande femme libre, créative,hyper charismatique,folle comme j'aime et irrévérencieuse....un personnage exceptionnel qu'on oublie jamais. Les Freaks se reconnaissent bien! J'ai tout de suite aimé ta vibe et celle de Fred pour notre seul collaboration en 2005 avec les amis @m_chedid @sebmartelmusic @davidtaiebcatman et mon acolyte Vincent Segal. La magie a opéré direct sur l'emission LA MUSICALE présenté par @emmadecaunes La disparition de Fred peu de temps après a 50 ans, m'avais déja bien attristé.....mais la vie a continué. Quelques années plus tard avec @bumcello nous avons eu la chance de faire ta 1ère partie a Lyon aux @nuitsdefourviere En pleine improvisation,Vincent décide de rendre hommage aux RITA en jouant la mélodie de "C'est comme ça ".....et là,la foule pousse un grand cri énorme ! Je comprenais pas cet enthousiasme soudain, mais j'ai vite compris que Catherine étais venu sur scène pour danser sur nos improvisations! Je me suis dis "Wow ,grand respect pour cette grande artiste qui se dévoile sur scène avec la 1ère partie, avant même d'entamer son propre concert💓🔥💓 Il n'y a pas beaucoup d'artistes majeures qui se dévoilerait ainsi... Catherine étais d'une autre planète... toujours spontané et fraîche ! En 2016 une belle occasion se présente. @jeanmichel.ribes et son équipe du @theatredurondpoint me demande de monter un groupe pour rendre hommage aux RITA MITSOUKO Je fait un casting autour de mon duo congopunQ avec Dr. Kong @constantinleu en performeur, et un backing band de luxe avec les amis @jeanphidary @discominck et @thomas.naim Pour cette soirée dadaïste très spéciale entre hommage aux RITA et les musiques congolaises, nous avons eu la chance d'avoir eu les chanteuses/eurs @sabinasciubbaofficial @nosfell_off @m_chedid @oliviaruizofficiel @adriennepauly @luce.est.cool @oliviaruizofficiel @iziamusic @pablo.padovani_ ( @moodoid ) Je rêvais que Catherine viennent assister a ce concert, mais elle a décliné, sûrement parce qu'elle n'aimais pas les hommages et ses by @cyrilatef

----------------🇭🇹I LOVE HAITI🇭🇹----------------- - - -Exactely 20 years i went back to play with my experimental solo project congopunQ in Port au Prince , Cap Haitien and Port de Paix. This was my second trip thanks to the director of the Institut Français of Port-au-Prince at the time, Paul-Elie Lévy who made me come to a festival called " Voix et Percussions" I've always loved haitian culture, their bands, the music. ( Kompa,Rara,Racine music, the Vaudou repertoire etc...), traditional and contemporary art, poetry,writers and film makers. - A culturally super rich island full of bright human beings staying creative even though living in extreme harsh conditions! - -This video of our concert in 2006 was one of those exceptional concerts engraved forever in my memory! My partner in congopunQ, performer Dr. Kong @constantin_leu and i witnessed and created a beautiful sort of uncontrollable chaos. - -We started playing, and we saw the public just look at us, thinking to themselves "What the fuck are these 2 white boys doing?" The audience started calling Dr.Kong names like "Oussama Jesus" and "Hougan" ( Vaudou priest ) - - Slowly but surely i started to create an improvisation with loops and playing my distorted likembe ( sanza ), while Dr. Kong was preparing his usual surreal Dada shit, this time preparing his various objects and connecting himself with the audience through rubber bands. - --We felt like we were channeling some deep vibes and turning into masters of disorder! - -The crowd went wild, started singing their own chants, totally improvising on our improvisations. - -Things got chaotic, a few ladies , the director and a few queer guys came and rocked the stage with their moves......i love these moments on stage when shit can go one way or the other.... it's that pure chaotic trance energy that i strive for 🔥 When i started to understand that some of the young men in the crowd were shouting homophobic insults to the guys dancing on stage, i told them to shut the fuck up and change their attitude....not an easy task, when you're abroad and don't speak creole. - - ....story continued in comments by @cyrilatef

------------------- Rumba in Kenya------------------ - - - -About a year ago, i spend some time in Nairobi to record musicians and singers for a new upcoming movie that my sister Emilie Atef was shooting at the time. - - -I recorded congolese musicians, an 8 piece choir and a traditional Nyatiti player ( the kenyan Lyre from the Luo people ) We spent 3 days of recording in @snowballindustries studios, with the invaluable help of brother Joseck Muzi Asikoye @jabaliafrika @muziwananjero -Kenyan night life is hot, with different congolese bands rocking venues in town. A lot of kenyans love congolese rumba, rumba zaïroise, soukous and ndombolo. This music is part of the city soundtrack. - - -I've always been a lover of congolese music, especially their magic seben guitar lines that spread all over Africa ( + the 🌎) and perfect vocal harmonies. - -As always, i need to jam with local musicians when i travel... it's medicine!💓 The singers didn't know my name, so they just called me Jean-Robert "Mundele" ( meaning white man in Lingala ) or Muzungu ( same thing in Swahili)...love it🤣 - - - Enjoy the vibes Baby 💥 Il y a environ un an, j'ai passé du temps à Nairobi pour enregistrer des musiciens et des chanteurs pour un nouveau film que ma sœur Emilie Atef tournait à l'époque. - - -J'ai enregistré des musiciens congolais, une chorale de huit personnes et un joueur de nyatiti (la lyre traditionnelle du peuple Luo). - -Nous avons passé trois jours à enregistrer aux studios Snowball , grâce à l'aide précieuse de Joseck Muzi Asikoye. - - La vie nocturne kenyane est trépidante, avec différents groupes congolais qui enflamment les clubs de la ville. Beaucoup de Kenyans adorent la rumba congolaise, la rumba zaïroise, le soukous et le ndombolo. Cette musique fait partie intégrante de la bande-son de la ville. - - J'ai toujours adoré la musique congolaise, surtout leurs solos de guitare seben envoûtants qui résonnent dans toute l'Afrique (et même au-delà 🌎) et leurs harmonies vocales parfaites. - - Comme toujours, j'ai besoin de jouer avec des musiciens locaux quand je voyage… c'est un vrai remède ! 💓 - - - Profite BB ! 💥 #congoleserumba #travelingmusician by @cyrilatef
