Fresh out of Berklee, @cyruschestnut got a call from Jon Hendricks: "You got a passport? We leave in five days." 🎹

Decades later, he's our 2026 Giant of Jazz honoree. Thanks to Sanford Josephson and the @njjazzsociety for this great read on his path from Betty Carter's band to bandleader in his own right. Link in our Story!

🎹 THE WAIT IS OVER 🎹

Last week, Grammy-winning producer @johnleebass announced South Orange's next Giants of Jazz honoree, and it's pianist @cyruschestnut !

Chestnut is highly-regarded as the greatest jazz pianist of his generation. He is also a noted jazz educator and piano professor at Howard University. He has a musical style that blends gospel soul, classical precision, and jazz fire into a sound all his own. A Steinway Artist who's shared the stage with Wynton Marsalis, Betty Carter, and Donald Harrison, and leads one of the most celebrated trios in jazz today.

Trust us, you'll want to be in the room for this one.

Cyrus Chestnut put on a piano jazz master class at the Alberta Rose Theatre last night. The much honored Chestnut was brought to Portland by the Biamp Portland Jazz Festival put on each year by PDX Jazz. Nearly every show over the festival's 10-day run has sold out, including Chestnut's. A testament to Portland's enthusiasm for live music and jazz. @cyruschestnut @albertarose.theatre @pdxjazz taken in The Alberta Rose Theatre by @cyruschestnut
