We arrived in Lisbon on September 8th, after traveling from Porto to Lisbon with two stops in between, Nazare and Obidos. Both towns were small and pretty but Nazare was more about the ocean while Obidos was about the winding alleyways full of flowers and beauty. I think I would like to live in Obidos. This is my favorite picture of me and Mimi. It was amazing spending a few days with her in Spain and Portugal.

The Eden Theatre (Teatro Eden) is one of Lisbon’s most striking architectural landmarks, standing proudly in Praça dos Restauradores. Designed by architects Cassiano Branco and Carlo Florencio Dias, this masterpiece opened its doors in 1931 as a grand cinema and theatre. It quickly became the crown jewel of Lisbon’s cultural scene, celebrated for its breathtaking Art Deco facade, geometric lines, and stylized bas-reliefs depicting actors and performers. As times changed, the curtains fell on its theatrical era, and the building closed in 1989. However, it found new life in the late 1990s when it was thoughtfully transformed into a luxury hotel. Today, while the interior accommodates modern travelers, the iconic exterior remains perfectly preserved—a beautiful reminder of the golden age of Portuguese cinema

I tried this Cherry liqueur and absolutely loved it.
Ginjinha is Lisbon’s legendary sour cherry liqueur and a staple of the city’s culture. While Romans introduced the sour cherry trees to Portugal, it was a local friar who first experimented with infusing the fruit in alcohol. In 1840, an immigrant named Francisco Espinheira commercialized the recipe by mixing the cherries with aguardente (brandy), sugar, and cinnamon. He opened A Ginjinha in Lisbon’s Largo de São Domingos, which still serves the drink today.

Porto is the second largest city in Portugal with the population of around 1 million people, including the surrounding areas. It is a city full of vibrant culture, colors, Pastal da nata (custard pastry), and the winding Duoro river that cuts through the city. Overall, such an amazing vibe of a city.

A few days back I went on a tour of a few abandoned cinema houses in Rawalpindi. The tour provided me with a blast from the past, the times when I used to honor my presence in some of these cinema houses, by bunking my classes, with a few friends or sometimes on my own. The craze and the cinema culture had a life of its own. All that is part of the bygone days now. Walking through those abandoned cinema houses was bitter sweet; the old needs to go to make way for the new, but still the memories and the hustle and bustle of the hay days of cinema is something that I still crave even today. So long the old cinema houses!.
