It was for our benefit,
that God hung there on wood.
The suffering of all mankind,
pain that only He understood.

What kind of Man does that,
take that treatment that was mine?
Love so strange it’s untold,
it can only be seen as Divine.

Lonely and abandoned,
only God knows such pain.
Trading His royalty for our dirt,
it was His loss for our gain.

Will we ever truly know,
the pain caused on that tree?
Where God felt what we never could,

Up on that cursed hill,
hung the image of the Divine.
Where the Most High stooped most low,
so His goodness could become mine.

The Man that hung up there,
is the Man who hung the stars.
The Right Hand of God lifted high,
now forever marked with scars.

How could endless beauty,
be so willing to take my fall?
No need to pay the debt I owed,
the crimson flood covers it all.

It’s that tree that stands alone,
where the Divine took our place.
The Lord of Lords born in a barn,
