Sunrise cover for @d1jpfr

Digital hand-sketching, painting, and collaging.

Some notes
For this piece, I began with a sketch and collage of my own based off JP’s blueprint to create my desired perspective and atmosphere.
For the city skyline, I combined several processes, beginning with sketches and photo-bashed elements before painting over them, customizing the colouring and curves to unify the different sources and aid cohesive lighting-perspective.
The figures were hand-painted digitally using the requested red, blue, and yellow/cream colour palette, and overlaid with subtle textures on their clothing to give them a more tactile quality. I included the shoe referenced for the colour palette as a part of their outfits. The sky was airbrushed, again, using the same colour motif. I varied the values and saturation of each colour throughout the piece to add harmony, depth, and definition.
I intended for the shape of the sunrays to somewhat resemble an angel behind the warplane. I chose the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress because this aircraft dropped more bombs than any other aircraft in World War II.
The circle of the sun itself is a cut and layered paper element.
I extracted segments from real, vintage newspaper archives to create the lettering. Although more tedious than simply inserting a typeface, the labour I subject myself to throughout my projects makes the work feel more personal to me.—I overlaid a scan of my own to add texture and colour to the clippings.
Small details were added on layers of various blend modes, such as the sunbeams, building highlights, grass blades, and shadows.
