About 5 years ago, I saw a need for a student mentorship program. I created this program we eventually called D3 (Discipline, Determination, Dreams), to intervene early, preventing negative disciplinary consequences and helping students navigate personal challenges. Each week, we meet with students to provide lessons on personal growth topics such as respect, accountability, and emotional intelligence. We also address real-life issues in real-time. For instance, if an altercation happens at school, we discuss.

The program began with 20 sixth-grade boys, and the impact was immediate: we saw a 25% reduction in disciplinary consequences and a 0.4-point increase in overall GPA. These positive results have been consistently achieved year over year. In our fourth year, we expanded the program to include fifth and seventh-grade boys, and the following year, the current sixth and seventh graders began their second year in the program. Recognizing the need for similar support for girls, we expanded the program to include fifth and sixth-grade girls in the current year, and again we saw an immediate positive impact. The girls group is called G3 (Goals, Generosity, Gratitude). We currently serve around 100 5th, 6th, and 7th grade boys and almost 100 5th and 6th grade girls. We also have an elementary division serving around 30 4th grade boys.

In addition to the mentoring sessions, our students engage in service projects that benefit both the school and the local community. They have participated in Carl Stuart’s Fall Festival, helping with event setup and cleanup, and assisted with the WinterFest community event at Marguerite Vann Elementary. Our students have also raised funds for City of Hope’s Christmas Mall and contributed to Tacos 4 Life’s Mobile Pack, where they helped pack over 250,000 meals for Feed My Starving Children. We participated again last Friday, with 120 students packing and additional 47,000 meals.

We had a wonderful time presenting @d3g3mentoring at the Arkansas Counselors Conference. Spoke to many wonderful counselors about what we do. Loved all the questions and the feedback we got! I hope we can spread the D3/G3 message to more wodneful Arkansas school districts! UCA sorority representatives visited with a few G3 members. They discussed the roles sororities play like philanthropy and sisterhood. They even shared some personal stories about their experiences in middle school and high school! A great start to another mentoring partnership! by @d3g3mentoring

The D3/G3 team had a great time presenting at the Arkansas School Counselers Association Conference in Hot Springs today. We spoke to about 30 school counselors all over the state about our program! We had lots of great questions and a genuine interest on how they could help their schools and students!! #ARSCA #mentorship by @d3g3mentoring

I had an absolute blast presenting D3 and G3 at the SHAPE Conference today! Presenting to PE teachers was fun and a different experience! Had some great questions at the end and looking forward to working with these great educators on mentoring young people across the state of Arkansas! Saw some old friends from Arkansas Tech! @cathrynbass and @coachcreamer by @d3g3mentoring

This week has been an absolute blessing and an incrediblly proud moment for my students and my school. We, D3/G3 at Carl Stuart, hosted a mobile packing event through Tacos 4 Life and Feed My Starving Children. Over the last three days, students from Carl Stuart, Simon, Ruth Doyle and Bob Courtway Middle Schools and some really awesome Conway High School kids packed over 155,000 meals that can feed 427 children for a entire year. Not only that, the INCREDIBLE staff at FMSC helped us every step of the way. We also had several parents of our students volunteer their time.

When I tell you we have some REMARKABLE young people, I am not doing them justice. They stepped up and absolutely blew the doors off the place. Several stepped up every time we asked and did everything we asked them to do. I am so humbled by their willingness to help other people and inspired by these young men and women.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Andrew Wright. He spearheaded this whole thing to bring it to life and help provide this opportunity for us. He's done this four times now, and is always positive and looking down the road for more opportunities. Truly grateful for him and his relentless effort.

Additional shout outs to my admin for allowing us to do this, and of course the rest of my D3/G3 team that supports everything we do. Shout out to the teachers who continued to support us by letting us take their students out of their classes to pack meals. Truly grateful for each and every person who made this a success! by @d3g3mentoring
