The hockey world has lost a beloved person, friend, student and athlete. On Sunday, October 4th, Riley Vander Esch sadly passed away at the age of 21.

We send our deepest condolences, love and strength to Riley’s family, friends and the Saint Mary’s & Sioux Falls communities.

Vander Esch, a native of Sioux Falls, SD, was a tremendous athlete, student and most of all, person.

She was entering her senior season with the Cardinals, where she was a goaltender with seven games under her belt. Riley was majoring in Sports Management & Accounting. Prior to attending SMU, Vander Esch was a 2022 state champion with the Sioux Falls Flyers.

Please join us in keeping Riley, her family and her friends in your thoughts and prayers. Her courageous battle with brain cancer and the strength she showed for over a year was nothing short of inspirational.

The Vander Esch family asks that you donate to the programs that Riley was a part of..

- Saint Mary’s (MN) Women’s Hockey
- Coulee Regional Humane Society (La Crosse, WI)
- Sioux Falls (SD) Lady Flyers
- Brandon Valley Ice Cats (Brandon, SD)
- Sean Ryan Foundation (Winona, MN)
- Pay It Forward Golf Classic/Bell Bank (Woodbury, MN)

Sticks out for Riley.

The hockey world has lost a beloved person, friend, coach and athlete. On Friday, September 11th, Emily McNamara sadly passed away at the age of 42.

We send our deepest condolences, love and strength to Emily’s family, friends and the Middlebury & Hamilton communities.

McNamara, a native of North Hampton, NH, was a tremendous athlete, coach and most of all, person.

She played for the Panthers from 2003-2007, donning the ‘C’ for her senior season. She earned her bachelors degree in English. In her time as a player at Middlebury, McNamara would help the team win two NESCAC titles while becoming three-time National Champions winning in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Her individual accolades included the 2007 Captain John Owen Memorial Award, given to the player who exemplifies dedication and support of the Middlebury women’s ice hockey team. She was also an All-NESCAC Academic selection, a one-time First & Second Team All-NESCAC honoree and made the 2005 NCAA All-Tournament team.

Her coaching career began immediately after graduation, joining the Middlebury women’s staff as an assistant coach. She’d spend four seasons with long-time Coach Bill Mandigo. She’d leave the Panthers to take her first head coaching role at Hamilton College where’d she spend 11 seasons from 2012-2023, winning the NESCAC Coach of the Year twice (2017, 2023) and AHCA & USCHO National Coach of the Year in 2023.

McNamara would rejoin the Panthers for the 2023-2024 season, where she served as an assistant coach until her passing.

Please join us in keeping Emily, her family and her friends in your thoughts and prayers.

Always and forever, #MACstrong.

With 21 days remaining until our first game against Endicott, we would like to welcome back our previous 21 back into the fold. Curtis Judd had an extensive offensive career with the Huskies that would later lead to a stint of professional hockey in the SPHL. Judd was a Captain for the Huskies, and notably delivered a 2023 campaign that named him to the NEHC All-Conference 2nd Team as well as a Joe Concannon semi-finalist. Curtis, welcome back to the pack!

Giving back to the next generation of hockey players! 🏒

Last night marked the final session of our four-week volunteer coaching experience with Ludlow Youth Hockey. Throughout the past month, our entire team had the opportunity to get on the ice, share our knowledge, and help these young athletes develop their skills and love for the game.

It was a rewarding experience for everyone involved. Thank you to Ludlow Youth Hockey for having us, and best of luck to all the players in their upcoming season! taken in Smead Arena by @d3hky

The New England Small College Athletic Conference is coming in hot!

The Ephs come in as defending NESCAC Champs and the fourth different team to win the title in the last four seasons. However, the league will have to battle the defending National Champions, Hamilton College, as the always strong NESCAC gets ready to go.
