Part 1 & Verticals

Back in April I photographed Donna Blair and Tamara Carlisle of @commercegallery for @texasmonthly during my short visit to Lockhart, TX.

I got my start making pictures for magazines right outta college shooting CEO’s and Entrepreneurs for magazines like Fast Company and Inc. which fortunately, I still get to shoot for today… but photographing these entrepreneurs after all this time, felt a little different for me, because they exuded a different feeling, a true sense of community.

As I moved through Lockhart from spot to spot I chatted up locals, and business owners, and everyone seemed to know these two amazing women. Everyone had something positive to say, “The Mayors of Lockhart” I think someone might have described them as... taken in Lockhart, Texas by @d__blair

THE CECIL ON MARKET.

Built in 1893 at the corner of West Market and Blanco in Lockhart for Leo and Selma Schwartz, the house later became home to T.C. Mohle and his family. More than 130 years later, I’m honored to be its latest steward.

I bought the old “Yellow House” almost two years ago. For a little over the past year, I’ve been working with a great team to carefully restore it for its next chapter, with the hope that the work we do now gives it another 130 years. We’ve taken much of it apart and put it back together, rebuilt chimneys and fireplaces, repaired old framing, and preserved as much of its age and character as we could.

The goal was never to make an old house feel new. It was to respect what came before while making room for what comes next, and to bring the house back as a place for people to gather, stay awhile, and feel at home.

Soon, it will open as The Cecil on Market, a place to stay in Lockhart. I’m grateful to everyone who has helped bring it back and excited to finally start sharing its story! taken in Historic, Downtown Lockhart by @d__blair
