Dana Kamal Coalescence Coalescence takes its name from the process by which separate elements merge into a new whole. Inspired by desert rose crystal formations, the work reflects on belonging as something that emerges through relation rather than isolation: what appears whole is held together by the presence of others. Dana Kamal is a Dubai-based ceramic artist known for monochrome, nature-inspired porcelain sculptures, who trained in architecture and design. Founder of D Bloom Bird Ceramics and two-time recipient of the Dubai Ceramic Award, she has exhibited at SIKKA and been commissioned for projects including Marsa Al Arab and Royal Atlantis. Parian porcelain Installation of ten hand-built forms, Ø 7 – 32 cm MONOCHROMA 2 · Black & White Gallery M, Manarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi Until 18 October 2026 Curated by Kamal Al Zoubi · Co-curated by Marita Setas Ferro Presented by Double J Collective, in partnership with the Ministry of Culture, the Department of Culture and Tourism, Abu Dhabi and the Al Jalila Cultural Centre for Children #doublejcollectivegallery #manaratalsaadiyat #monochroma2 #contemporaryceramics by @d_bloom_bird
So thankful that I once again had the opportunity to participate in this years edition of @sikkaplatform as part of #beitilkhazaf. In the last 5 years, Beit il Khazaf under the patronage of @dubaiculture through the @ajcccuae , and the stewardship and careful curation of @kamalpottery has gone from strength to strength from a tiny room on the upper floor of a small house in Al-fahidi in 2021 to the spacious opulence of a 10 gallery room villa overlooking the creek in the beautiful surroundings of @alshindagha . Beit il Khazaf is about more than ceramics, it’s about community and camaraderie - it brings the whole of the ceramics community together offering a place to exhibit ceramic art, a marketplace to support local makers, and an opportunity to share the joy of getting clay into the hands of would be ceramicists through the wonderful workshops of the talented teachers at @ajcccuae . This year it showcased the work of 40 ceramic artists, and the work of member makers from @crnartdesign, @houseofraw.studios , @yadaweistudio , @ajcccuae and the wonderfully talented POD. I was lucky and honoured to share space with @dahouk_creations, @shamsa.juma2015, @adeelmirza216, @perfectly.imperfect.majd and @sev_pottery in one of the galleries. My pieces this year were: ‘Reclamation of remembrance’ - a reflection on what it means to reclaim a symbol that has been associated with very different histories. In ‘Murmuration’ - I was inspired by Mahmoud Darwish’s poem about birds reaching the end of their journey. That idea of collective arrival stayed with me. How moving together can hold both vulnerability and protection. The birds aren’t about direction so much as shared awareness. ‘Scent of memory’ (diptych wall piece) developed more intuitively. Jasmine is so intrinsically connected to sensory memory: scent, atmosphere, belonging. This piece was about how ‘place’ lives in the body and emerges through making. Huge thanks to our curator @kamalpottery for his unwavering dedication and commitment to the the ever growing ceramics community and to the team @ajcccuae for their continued support. 📷credits : The super talented @vaheedabbasi 🙏 by @d_bloom_bird
In Monochroma – Black & White Where shadow defines form and silence builds structure. What Remains’ Series, 2025 Black porcelain, resin, metal, wood On show as part of Monochroma @doublejcollectivegallery until 31 October This series emerged from surplus ‘blooms’ left over from a previous work, Plumeria Eclipse. Intended as charred frangipani flowers, the forms were often mistaken for fungi - a misreading that became central to the work. Natural forms repeat across systems: coral can echo fungal structures; flowers can resemble corals or spores. What remains from one expression can be absorbed, transformed, and reappear in another context entirely. These works became a reflection on what quietly endures after destruction. The remnants of Plumeria Eclipse suggested organic matter for fungi : agents of regeneration that thrive in darkness. The charred, gnarled, black-stained trunks reference endings and rupture, yet they also hold space for life to persist within inhospitable conditions. Though materially dark, What Remains considers endurance, regeneration, and the subtle continuities that survive collapse. With thanks to @doublejcollectivegallery @maritaferro @inovajorgepinto @jrm.monteiro and our curator extraordinaire @kamalpottery, as well as all the artists I was honoured to exhibit alongside @nessmadjouhri @nilza_studio @shamsa.juma2015 @latakhaf_ceramics @mariefrancescottceramics @c_ho_s_e @toma2new @pottery_with_madar @peekaboo_ceramics #WhatRemainsSeries #ContemporaryCeramics #SculpturalInstallation #MonochromeArt #BlackPorcelain #MaterialNarrative #CeramicSculpture by @d_bloom_bird
Stillness sculpted in porcelain. Dana Kamal’s monochrome works are an ode to the quiet beauty of nature distilled through discipline, material integrity, and an intimate understanding of form. Each sculpture becomes a silent landscape. Lines curve like wind across stone. Surfaces ripple with the memory of growth, erosion, and breath. Winner of two Dubai Ceramic Awards, Dana’s language is pared down yet profound, a soft, almost whispered expression of balance in a world of noise. Watch her hands trace silence. #doublejcollectivegallery #dubai #gallery #ceramics #finecrafts #handmade #woman #porcelan #porcelainflowers #ceramicartist #artforinteriordesigners #natureinspiredart by @d_bloom_bird
You’re warmly invited to the opening of Monochroma – Black & White Curated by Kamal AlZubi In a world stripped of colour, clay begins to speak. Silence takes shape. Shadows carve meaning. And light rests gently on every curve. Rooted in diverse cultural traditions and now working in Dubai, eleven artists gather in quiet communion, offering a rare, ceramic-only showcase where restraint becomes resonance and contrast becomes connection. From fractured porcelain to photographic totems, from mythic panels to meditative forms, Monochroma invites you to dwell in the details, to listen with your eyes, and to discover beauty in the quiet dialogue between black and white. 📅 October 11th | 6 PM 📍 Double J Collective Gallery, Dubai Design District 📧 RSVP: info@doublejcollective.com by @d_bloom_bird

I am so excited to invite you all to the opening of my upcoming exhibition at the Rotunda Gallery, American University of Dubai on Wednesday 21st of May at 6 pm. This wonderful opportunity was the prize for winning the 6th Edition of the Dubai Ceramic Award last year. It will be my first solo exhibition. ‘Blooming Against the Odds’ refers to my love of flowers, the resilience of nature and the unfolding of this unlikely new artistic chapter in my life that has unexpectedly come in my fifties when most are at the penultimate decade of their working life and (I hope🤞🏻) I am only just starting mine. This moment cements that I am not just a housewife with a hobby, but an artist with skills 💪 😂💪 A very big thank you to @michaelriceceramics Chair of the Department of Visual Communication and Professor of Studio Art at AUD (and a renowned ceramicist himself) who created the Dubai Ceramics award a few years ago, and to AUD who sponsor it. This truly is a wonderful opportunity - and it is the perfect prize: getting one’s feet wet in a solo exhibition and their art seen is priceless to an artist starting out. Daunting? Yes . . . But it is also equally exciting and yet another challenge on this journey that has pushed me (far) out of my comfort zone. Not much else to say except that I hope to see everyone who can make it to The Rotunda Gallery, AUD at 6pm on Wednesday 21st May! The exhibition will run until the 20th of June. Mondays -Fridays 10am - 6pm. Big thank you to @nessmadjouhri for the beautiful announcement poster 🫶🏻 by @d_bloom_bird
´The wound is the place where the light enters’ Series No. 4 (2024) 2 piece sculpture Glazed ceramic figure with glazed porcelain flower resting on unglazed black clay abstract torso No.4 in the series “The wound is where the light enters you,” again explores the intertwining themes of vulnerability and strength. These two pieces were made entirely independently of one another and 6 months apart. They were meant to be two individual sculptures. However, when it came to mounting the bronze figure as a finished piece, it became clear that it would not, indeed could not, stand alone. No.4 was silently telling me that it was incomplete as it was, though it had transmuted its pain into beauty and hope - it had lost its equilibrium in the process of growing that pristine flower and needed something - an ‘other’ to rest upon. Sometimes, just sometimes, we cannot walk the path alone. Sometimes we need to surrender ourselves to something greater than ourselves. #ceramicart #dubaiart #artcollector #dubaiartist #artwithheart #Art #Sculpture #ModernArt #Vulnerability #Strength #Inspiration #ArtisticExpression #ContemporaryArt #ArtLovers #Reflection #BeautyInContrast #thewoundiswherethelightenters #rumiquotes by @d_bloom_bird
‘Sumoud’ 77 black clay figures in black sand 483 -493 red glazed porcelain poppies 200 porcelain birds My installation for Sikka 2025 finally merges my flowers, birds and figures together. This installation is a symbolic interpretation of the theme of ‘Sumoud’: to remain steadfast, resilient and resolute in the face of adversity with strength, dignity and grace and an unwavering commitment to hope, faith and love. What appears to be a cityscape beneath the flock of birds above are in fact 77 abstract figures of different heights standing steadfast and resilient in their armour of black clay, despite their punctured hearts. They are each crowned with a tiny bird symbolising divine favour. They are what remains of the city - standing resolute in a desolate landscape save for the nearly 500 blood red poppies scattered at their feet and the dynamic flock of pure white porcelain birds fluttering above their heads. ´Sumoud’ On show until midnight Sunday 9th February.
