I wanna take this moment to express how much you meant to us. You were the center of everyone’s world, the one who has always been there for us through thick and thin. Your love and support has been unwavering and I am forever thankful for that. From the little things like making our favorite meals to the big things like offering guidance and encouragement. I’m so grateful for the way I was raised. You were never afraid to be our mother, and to put your foot down, to teach us right from wrong, to make sure we did our best. You always let us know we had a mom who cared about us, who believed in us, who was there for us no matter what. Growing up with that kind of love and support made such a difference in our lives, it made us who we are today. You were never afraid to voice your opinion or to be one to mince words, to put it lightly, but she was always pure in her intentions and true in her actions, and I feel so clearly, so humbly loved. As I go forward, I remember her strength and purity, her sense of pride, her generous heart and sensitivity. Throughout your life and especially in your fight against lung cancer, you set us an example in unconditional devotion, taught our family valuable life lessons and never lost your indomitable spirit. Always put us first no matter how much pain and suffering you were going through. I know you are with us now and always. Goodbyes are only for those who love with their eyes, because for those who love with heart and soul there is no such thing as separation. Rip mom I love you forever 🕊️🤍 by @d_gray1012

Today marks 2 years since my best friend first found out she has stage 4 lung cancer. It wasn’t easy getting told this news and I know for a fact it wasn’t easy for her to break the news. In the beginning there was definitely more bad days than good ones. there were days where she didn’t wanna move, talk, eat, drink, nothing, but there were also days where she wanted to do everything and anything she could just do her kids would have a good time. there have also been days where I’ve cried at night or I felt hopeless. I started getting depressed and sometimes I still feel that way and just never tell anyone. After the storm, you begin to search for the rainbow. You realize that having support is a big step towards recovery and that every story of survival serves as hope. You realize that having cancer is not a death sentence. My mother is not just a statistic. She is so much more than that Cancer will not define her and neither should it define any other women battling the same disease. My mother is loving, understanding, and strong. With or without cancer, she continues to be the same person and refuses to let this disease control how she lives her life. I guess my only regret is that it took a disease for me to really look, listen, and know my mother as a woman and not just a parent. I wish there was a way I could just take the pain away from her and give it to myself but there’s not. And it hurts every single day watching or listening to her cry because of it. The last couple of months she has improved big time. She’s eating better, moving around better, she’s doing everything better than she was, but there’s still those days where she’s upset or not in the mood for anything.I refuse to let this disease dictate the way we live our lives. Cancer is a learning experience, and it taught me to appreciate life. It led me to an understanding that this word we fear cancer can be overcome with courage. Today is your day mama and you got a whole family behind you. Keep killing it like you’ve been. I love you more than anything 🫶🏻❤️ by @d_gray1012

Happy birthday to the most loving, helpful and caring person I ever met. I don’t even know where to start but you’ve always been there for me no matter what it was. You sacrificed many precious moments in your life, so that I could have them in mine. Thank you for supporting me when I needed it and giving me hope when I was hopeless. You Made me feel loved and taught me soo much in life that I still don’t get. I know I don’t show it much but I can’t show or tell you how much I appreciate everything you’ve done being healthy and even while being sick. This whole year and some change still don’t even seem real and even this past 2 weeks have been crazy but you are truly an amazing mother and an even better person. I love you mom 🫶🏻❤️. by @d_gray1012

Everything is perfectly fine, everything is great, then one day it all comes crashing down and shattered pieces are left. My life would never be the same but I guess change is for the best and it forced me to become the person I am today. It’s rough to be one of the oldest child, especially when your mom is diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and you have 3 younger siblings that look to you for comfort when their mom can’t be there. When the cancer is spread throughout your moms body doctors can’t just get rid of it no matter how badly you wish they could. Rounds of chemo only slow it down, yet it’s still there a lurking monster waiting to reappear at any given moment. Nothing can even begin to describe the fear I felt. On that day a little piece of me began to change because if I let her see my fear that would not help anyone. The fear I felt then led me to realize that I needed to try and hide it because it would only hurt my dad more to see us so upset. Life can change so much in forty-five seconds. One moment your mom is a healthy, vibrant woman in the prime of her life, and in the next she is fighting a life-threatening disease, unsure of whether she will make it to 50. As we sat in stunned silence, I looked over at my mom, expecting to see her confidently taking in the news. My mom’s personal strength and work ethic have always been a foundational part of my family. What I saw, though, shocked me. She had lowered her head into her hands, and was crying. if Mom is who you go to when you’re scared, where do you go when she’s scared, too? The effects of the chemotherapy only worsened over the following days. My mom, the person who tirelessly cared for our family, now spent much of the day in bed, overcome with fatigue and nauseousness. A week after her first treatment, Mom’s hair began to fall out. never knew how my mother found the strength to deliver the devastating news so casually. No physical pain could compare to what I felt upon learning that my mother was battling cancer. I took the news the hardest. I shut myself from the world and refused to talk about the disease. Stay strong mama I love you ❤️ by @d_gray1012
