Won’t He do it!! Just yesterday I made a post about needing an electric wheelchair for one of our clients. Today we went to pick up some donated furniture and the person was also giving away a functional electric wheelchair. Stay tuned for my post expressing our need for an abandoned hotel. 😜😜 by @d_manatl

Good morning FB family and friends. I just wanted to make a quick post to shout out and thank Ujima Way’s monthly donors as well as all of you who make contributions to support our work. First, a Praise Report regarding the female Veteran who was living in the woods that many of you stepped up to help back in the winter. Her and her children were housed this past week in a 4 Bedroom apartment after completing our Camp Breakthrough retreat. Your timely donations came at a time where we needed to help them get out the cold, which really made a difference in their lives. Grants are great, but donations allow us to do many of the things that some grants don’t allow. Right now we have a case of a man living in an abandoned apartment building who needs an electric wheelchair because he can no longer use his arms to operate his current wheelchair. I have an electric chair for him but it needs a battery and most likely some minor repairs. So, as our monthly donor’s contributions are scheduled to hit our account within the next few days, I can make the call to get the electric wheelchair repaired. This man does not choose to be in this situation. With continued support and the reinstatement of his SSDI check, he will transition into a better living situation. But that takes time and we’re working very hard to help him improve his current situation knowing better days are ahead. This is just one example of the importance of monthly donors who commit varying amounts to support our mission and help us get things done in crunch time. No cash donation is to small that we can’t put it to good use. And as we just housed several individuals and families, there’s a need for household furnishings as well. So, if you want to help or support Ujima Way, we welcome all types of assistance. by @d_manatl

This is what I call World Cup overflow. Unhoused individuals from Atlanta end up in other counties. We will still do our best to serve them, but we’re already spread very thin in terms of staffing and available resources. This man has prostate cancer and a leaking catheter. I refuse to accept or believe people should be forced to live like this. by @d_manatl

Hello Family and Friends, it’s been a while since I’ve made a post or any updates. Although Ujima Way hasn’t been posting, we have been very active. I want to shout out a few community partners and members who have been supporting our work over the past few weeks. I always say, we ALL see the problems in our communities and that leaves 3 choices, to 1) Address them, 2) Ignore them, or 3) Support the people or agencies doing the work. And ignoring a problem doesn’t mean you don’t care or don’t have a heart, it might simply mean that problem doesn’t align with what you’re passionate about. In any event, two community members Dee Dee Mays and her sisters, and Mrs. Deborah from Royalty of Judah supported our work through their generation donations. Royalty of Judah donated clothing that we distributed to a local apartment complex that had a major fire displacing several families. We also donated some of the canned goods we recently received from Atlanta Gas Light. Mrs. Dee Dee and her sisters make 40-50 snack bags every quarter. The bags contain a sandwich, fruit, bottled water and a small Bible and inspirational message. Instead of taking them to Atlanta as in previous years, they’ve opted to work with us to distribute them throughout Clayton County. Lastly, my good friend and community partner in this fight against homelessness Pastor William Francis, loaded our truck up with a bunch of donated items that we quickly got into the hands of our friends on the streets. So, a big public thanks to these three partners and all of my friends and friends who support the work of Ujima Way. by @d_manatl

It was made crystal clear to me that I do not fit the demographic for kids cereal when I wrote Kellogg’s several years ago to complain about them adding more colors to the original colors for Froot Loops. The remaining milk in the bowl was always an added bonus after finishing my cereal, and I didn’t want the flavor to change by adding new colors. Why keep changing the classics??? Silly Me, cereal is for kids. But what in the Black History Month is this??? Oh well, maybe the kids will like it. by @d_manatl

I know that wasn’t grammatically correct, but hopefully this post finds it way to people with the means to make a difference. It’s past time for band aid solutions to address problems that have impact an individual’s quality of life or consequently might contribute to their untimely death. The video pretty much sums it up. $3 M is not a lot to ask for to significantly address and eventually eradicate a problem. If it’s not for the few on drugs or the ones who can’t or are currently working, do it for the larger number of the ones who are not on drugs, have children and can’t afford housing. Do it for the sober seniors and veterans on fixed income who also need a place to be housed while they work on plans for long term housing stability. A 30 second Super Bowl commercial is estimated at $8M to $10M. This building that can save and serve thousands of people over time, is a fraction of 1 commercial. It’s a matter of priorities and also finding the ones who choose to invest in solutions that see people through rather than seeing through them. by @d_manatl

A day after my birthday Ujima Way was gifted a decommissioned utility truck from Atlanta Gas Light. They even went as far as stocking the truck with food and supplies for us to distribute to our friends on the streets. They typically sell the decommissioned vehicles but they believed in us and our mission and chose to support our work in serving the unhoused community. As we are growing our staff and expanding to serve more communities, this donation was right on time. As a small and relatively new nonprofit we receive more than our fair share of no’s and denials, and it means so much when foundations, individuals, or big companies say “Yes” to supporting our work. As we roll out our Heroes for the Homeless theme, we’ll be rolling in H.O.V.E.R. 3.0 the newest addition to our Homelessness Outreach Vehicle and Emergency Responder fleet. Thank you Atlanta Gas Light for your support and all you do to fuel possibilities and create meaningful opportunities for the people and communities you serve. by @d_manatl

New year, new marketing concept. Ujima Way has proven we will do the work and answer the call when unhoused citizens are in need. Now we need to really push to promote our work and brand on social media and build our followers and donor base. The super hero theme is not about vanity, it’s a comparison to super heroes who fight crime and solve problems in cities, but unlike us have healthy financial backing that allows them to do what they do with worrying about expenses. That’s our goal - to serve deeper and make an even bigger impact- and have a donor base that helps eliminate the delays in service, the times we have to say no, or the things we can’t do because we lack the funding. Our donors over the past 8 years have been phenomenal and I can’t thank you enough for supporting our mission and the citizens we serve. But now it’s time to get you all some help too, by recruiting more donors and supporters to what we’re calling The League of Extraordinary Donors. So, stay tuned as we unveil more comic style content showing us in action. We’re very excited and look forward to seeing the results. by @d_manatl

Outreach Chronicles 12/18/25. I stopped to eat lunch at Carrabba’s and got a chance to see a former client as one of the lead chefs in the kitchen. This young man stayed true to his commitment to get off the streets and obtain housing stability. I witnessed and supported his journey, as needed, from his time in the streets living out of tent, to moving into a hotel, and now in a rooming house. Seeing him maintaining his employment and housing, and being a key player at the restaurant was a good feeling. I made my way to speak to him and he was glad to see me as well. Proof positive that with the right attitude and support, overcoming homelessness is possible. @followers by @d_manatl

For the past few days I’ve noticed a man sleeping on the sidewalk off Tara Blvd. I stopped by to meet him 2 days ago to learn more about his situation. He claims to be a veteran and an own a home. But I’ve learned to believe some things when I actually see proof. Nonetheless, he is choosing at this time to be on the streets. He’s even choosing to be highly visible on one of the main streets in Clayton County. Maybe he’s making a statement or this is his way of drawing attention to possibly get assistance. So, I bought him a chicken biscuit and a coffee to build a connection and I’ll keep checking in on him to see if he’ll eventually want more services. taken in Clayton County by @d_manatl
