Wazir Patar is taking Punjabi music back to move it forward.

The Punjabi producer, artist and visual creative is digging into the culture’s past to soundtrack its future.

Rooted in Punjabi heritage but shaped by hip-hop, cinematic production and DIY visuals, Wazir Patar’s work sits somewhere between music, film and culture.

His approach is simple: don’t preserve the past. Rebuild it.

That mindset runs through everything from his music to the WZR TANK, a restored Mercedes W124 that turns nostalgia into something new.

Take a look at Wazir Patar’s visuals and you’ll see the same philosophy in frame. Distinct black and white aesthetic feels raw, cinematic and deliberately stripped back, drawing on the visual language of the past while giving it a contemporary edge.

As Punjabi sounds continue to cross borders, Wazir Patar is proving that looking back can be one of the most forward thinking moves you can make.

Because moving the culture forward doesn’t mean leaving its past behind.

Sometimes, the future sounds better when you know where you came from.

From jungle and footwork to South Asian community spaces, NAINA has spent years proving that club culture doesn’t need boundaries.

Raised in Burnham in a South Asian household, her early exposure to Bollywood soundtracks sparked a curiosity that would eventually lead her into the UK underground. Moving between jungle, footwork, techno, garage and bass, her approach to music has always been driven by discovery, championing sounds and artists that exist beyond the mainstream.

From broadcasting on Beats 1, Apple Music and NTS to co-founding Hooversound Recordings with SHERELLE, NAINA has built a career connecting different corners of electronic music. Through her TALA Radio show, she continues to create space for South Asian artists and conversations, bringing their stories to a global audience.

For NAINA, South Asian representation isn’t about fitting identity into a particular sound or aesthetic. It can be jungle, techno, footwork or anything in between.

With her debut EP Survival, she brings years of experience behind the decks into her own productions, continuing to explore the sounds, influences and experiences that have shaped her journey.

More than a selector, broadcaster and producer, NAINA is helping shape the future of South Asian club culture, one tune, one dancefloor and one community at a time.

FC 27 is officially out today and ZAINAB is taking her cross cultural sound to one of gaming’s biggest football franchises.

Pakistani born, New York based artist ZAINAB lands on the official FC 27 soundtrack with “Her Eyes” - a genre-blurring fusion of South Asian heritage, club music and psychedelia.

Built around pulsing bass, washed out funk guitar and a hypnotic sample of Libyan-Egyptian artist Hamid Al Shaeri’s “Ayonha”, the track weaves chanting vocals and dreamy melodies into a sound that bridges cultures and generations.

Formerly performing as ZEEMUFFIN, ZAINAB has spent years developing a musical identity shaped by her Pakistani roots and New York upbringing. Now, “Her Eyes” brings that world to millions of players worldwide.

As football continues to connect music, fashion, identity and communities across borders, her inclusion on the FC 27 soundtrack marks another step in taking her boundary blurring sound to a global audience. by @daalnbass

Steel Banglez has never followed the blueprint.

Raised between Punjabi culture and the sounds of East London, the producer has spent his career pulling from different worlds - Grime, Rap, Garage and South Asian music without feeling the need to choose between them.

In a scene where fitting in can often feel like the easiest route forward, Banglez built his own lane. His sound, identity and influence have always existed outside the expected norms.

For our Cultural & Editorial Lead, that impact was personal:
“When I was at secondary school, Banglez was producing every UK rap banger. At the time, I didn’t realise how huge it was to have a Punjabi producer behind some of the biggest tracks in the country. His songs are a soundtrack to me growing up, from secondary school through to university.”

That’s what makes his story bigger than the hits.

Banglez helped create space for a generation of South Asian creatives to see themselves within UK music culture without having to leave their identity at the door.

Steel Banglez didn’t follow the rules of UK music. He helped rewrite them.

Ahadadream’s P ★ K I is a love letter to the sounds that made him.

From Pakistani heritage to UK Grime, Funky, breaks and global club sounds, Ahadadream brings every part of his musical identity to the same dancefloor.

Across 11 tracks, P ★ K I is bass-heavy, percussion-led and deeply personal, with appearances from Capo Lee, Eliza Rose, Skrillex and Priya Ragu - alongside “Tere Bin”, featuring the legendary voice of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

But this album is about more than sound. Its title reclaims a word Ahadadream grew up hearing positively in Pakistan before encountering its harmful meaning in the UK, turning the record into an expression of identity, pride and self-love.

We experienced the album first-hand at its launch at Peckham’s Carpet Shop with Mixmag. Hearing these sounds through a club system was a seriously proud moment. Hosted by the incredible @itsnottalina, with the line up consisting of the powerhouse duo @djmakten and @mr_terminal_4, the incredible @yemz_dj and the incredible @izzi_thein, and of course Ahadaadream closing the night in style!

South Asian sounds aren’t being separated from Ahadadream’s UK experience, they’re being brought together. And “Tere Bin” captures that beautifully.

Hearing the room sing it back, loud and together was something special.

Two worlds. One sound. One dancefloor.

With Diljit Dosanjh taking over Wembley, we’ve been thinking about just how far Punjabi music has travelled.

From family homes and wedding dancefloors to clubs, festivals and now one of the biggest stadiums in the UK, the sound has been carried across generations and across borders.

But there was something different about seeing it at Wembley. No translation, no compromise - just Diljit Dosanjh performing with pride, in front of tens of thousands of people.

For our Cultural and Editorial Lead, this was an opportunity he couldn’t miss. “I remember hearing Chocolate and Pyar for the first time and thinking who is this guy. I may have only been 5 but there was something about him that already had me hooked. Fast forward to multiple albums and tours that kept getting bigger and bigger, it was only right that I finally got to see him live and I was only going to do that with my Mum (sorry Dad and to my sister).”

If you hear any dodgy vocals or see any shaky camera work, please forgive me I was very excited!

A monumental achievement for the continued success of Punjabi music and South Asian culture. Long may it continue!

“Punjabi Aa Gaye Wembley Oye!”
And Wembley sang it back.

Mumbai’s bass culture has a new frontman.
Meet Bamboy: Mumbai’s bassline rebel.

From carrying speakers through the streets of Parel to shelling down Boiler Room sets, BamBoy is pushing Mumbai’s underground into new territory.

Raised on the soundtrack of Bollywood, folk, Bhim Geet and local roadshows, his relationship with sound started long before the studio. Then came grime.

Wiley. Skepta. Heavy bass. Sharp flows. Raw storytelling.

But BamBoy wasn’t interested in copying the UK blueprint. Instead, he flipped it - colliding grime and dubstep with Indian percussion, folk sounds and the noise of Mumbai to create something that hits differently.

From Parel to international stages, BamBoy isn’t importing a sound.

He’s building his own.

Mumbai has always had the sounds.
BamBoy is just turning them up. by @daalnbass

Meet Baalti, the duo pushing South Asian sounds deeper into the UK underground.

Bhangra. Bollywood. Jungle. Garage. D&B. All colliding in one place.

Their sound isn’t about nostalgia or simply borrowing from South Asian culture. It’s about taking the sounds we grew up with and flipping them into something built for the dancefloor.

Their Boomtown set at Hidden Woods was a perfect example.

Heavy bass. South Asian rhythms. Big energy. No boxes.

For us at Daal & Bass, Baalti represent exactly where things are heading. South Asian culture not just influencing the underground, but helping shape what it sounds like.

The sound is getting heavier.
The movement is getting bigger.
And the underground is getting a whole lot more South Asian. by @daalnbass
