Just one Pokémon pickup at the card show today, but sheesh, what a beauty ⚡️

Yuka Morii has always been one of my favorite Pokémon artists, and this Raichu feels criminally underpriced. It has that charm that’s instantly recognizable, and I can’t believe more people aren’t chasing these yet. The English version is definitely next on my list.

With Morii’s upcoming workshop, the recent spotlight on the Ditto cards, and more collectors starting artist-focused collections, I have a feeling a lot more people are about to discover just how special her work really is.

Pokémon almost didn’t exist.

Before it became the world’s biggest media franchise, it was just an idea from a bug-obsessed kid named Satoshi Tajiri, and a tiny game studio that nearly ran out of money trying to bring it to life.

Most Pokémon fans know about MissingNo.

Far fewer know about the Pokémon that almost became part of the series.

Over the years, beta leaks, developer interviews, and unused development builds have revealed dozens of scrapped Pokémon—from Gorochu, Raichu’s planned evolution, to entire starter families, baby Pokémon, and evolutions that never made it into the final games.

Some were cut because of Game Boy cartridge limitations.

Others were replaced, redesigned, or quietly left behind during development.

You probably never noticed this… 👀

Before Shutterstock and Adobe Stock, Pokémon illustrators had access to Sozaijiten, a collection of professionally licensed stock photo CD-ROMs filled with landscapes, forests, beaches, flowers, and textures.

The Pokémon themselves were still hand-drawn. But many of the backgrounds were inspired by or adapted from these licensed reference photos.

Once you see the side-by-side comparisons, it’s hard to unsee them! And it wasn’t just Base Set. Collectors have identified examples across Jungle, Fossil, Team Rocket, Gym, and Neo-era cards.

It’s one of my favorite hidden pieces of Pokémon TCG history.

Behind every iconic Pokémon card is an artist, and few have left a bigger mark than Kagemaru Himeno.

From the original Jungle Eeveelutions and Team Rocket to Birthday Pikachu and modern Pokémon sets, Himeno’s signature watercolor style has shaped the Pokémon TCG for nearly 30 years.

Her vibrant Pokémon, soft backgrounds, and timeless artwork have earned her a devoted following, with many collectors building collections around her illustrations alone.

Some cards become iconic because they’re rare.

Others become iconic because of the artist behind them.

PSA 9.2 sealed copy of Yu-Gi-Oh! Dark Duel Stories added to the collection! ✨

Released in 2002, this was the first Yu-Gi-Oh! video game released in English. It was a fun Game Boy Color title with unique gameplay, but it’s also remembered for the exclusive promo cards that came inside.
