Come visit my 'Art-Free Zone - a safe space for Art' if all the Art during Berlin Art Week is a bit too much for you... Feel free to browse through an Art-free catalogue and take an Art-free postcard with you.

It's part of the "UNRUHE" show at @mahallaberlin opening today 6 PM, and will be on view each day from the 9th till the 13th of September from noon till midnight. Hope to see some of you there, as long as we don't talk about Art...

For six days, MaHalla will become an extraordinary space for art, encounters, and precisely that kind of Unruhe (restlessness) from which the best things so often emerge. I really enjoyed last year's edition, so am happy they asked me back this year!

I added a few photos when you keep swiping to give you a very small taste of the massive amount of Art you can find around the building : @rocco_and_his_brothers @lapaulari @martinederatelier @matthiasmross the Mahalla mirror Mercedes and @tokyo_qqq__ (who will perform on Friday) and last but not least my Love @iriskauffman who will also be part of the performance this evening ♥️ by @dadara_art

While most people in the Netherlands were probably cheering for the Dutch soccer team yesterday evening, we were busy pulling a fishing net as the finishing touch over my 'Road to Nowhere' in Anzio near Rome! 🌟

It's almost 6 meters high and made out of discarded styrofoam boxes used by the local fishermen and then covered with a fishing net.

18.000 styrofoam boxes are being used each month in Anzio alone by fishermen...

The sculpture was part of the 'Anzio R.I.S.E for the Ocean' event organized by @rawdrivers and @partart4ow

The R.I.S.E festival turned the harbour into a shared space for citizens, fishermen, artists, and scientists around an urgent challenge: removing polystyrene from the harbour and the ocean through concrete actions.

Special thanks to @marcellodato for making this project happen and my amazing sculpture team - @emanuelkangudie @francescoernestobove @carlapaiolo @asouphienne and Costantin Zampa - Valeria for letting us use her space for the initial build, and the team of Cantiere Navale Gallinari Innocenzo XII - Gianpaolo, Bruno and Cristian - for the final build! Without you all I could have never made this happen ♥️ by @dadara_art

"What did you do on Earth Day? On Earth Day we planted a tree covered in real money, the Transformoney Tree, in Joshua Tree."

After Burning Man, Woodstock, and California State Capitol, the tree now has planted its roots in Joshua Tree on the land of @newearthmuseum by @88.3hz 🌴

All the money that has been painted on and glued onto the tree (The Art of Turning Money into Art) has lost its financial value, but added lots of other values to the tree) In a world where we tend to see 'Value' as synonymous to 'Financial Value' 💰

Thanks to all who have helped make this possible @heartist.art @kjakman @phelpsartwork @_many_names and all others involved ♥️

Still jetlagged, so a really early California time post, but right on time for my home country the Netherlands... 😅

Behind the plates;
Dadara at Studio 46.
For ‘Not everything is black and white’ exhibition.
Dadara created two etchings at Studio 46 @studio46barcelona, the legendary engraving workshop founded by master printmaker Joan Barbarà in Barcelona in 1972.
Barbarà was known as the master behind the masters. Picasso, Miró, Beuys Dalí or Tàpies are just a few names of the master artists who came to his presses. Today, his son Virgili and grandson Om keep the workshop alive with the original equipment and assisted Dadara to put on the plate all his world in the traditional way, same paper, same plates, same press.
Dadara followed the classic etching process, step by step. The copper plate is coated with a protective ground, and the drawing is scratched into it with a needle. The plate is then bathed in acid, which bites only the exposed lines.
Finally it is inked, wiped by hand and run through the press. It is slow work that leaves no room for shortcuts, and it is all about black and white.
Every print carries a piece of the workshop’s history.
On view at the solo show Not everything is black and white curated by @fousiongallery displayed at Roots C/ Badajoz 115, Barcelona
Thursday 15 October.

Fousion Gallery and Roots Audiophile Café,
invite you to the new cycle of exhibitions in Poblenou.

Not everything is black and white.
Solo Show by Dadara
Opening and Artist Talk Thursday 15th of October , 7 pm
Exhibition 15/10 - 25/11/26

The show brings together a series of original drawings made with brush and black ink, a black thread running through his entire career, alongside two new etchings in collaboration with legendary Studio 46 in Barcelona @studio46barcelona .

For over three decades, Dadara has held up a tweaked mirror to our society: human values, money, screens, the cult of the “like”, and the grey man in a suit who forgot how to dream. His answer has always been colour and irony. This time he goes back to where it all started: black ink.

Looking forward to present this journey through his restless creative worlds.

Opening Thursday 15 October, 7 pm. Roots — C/ Badajoz 115, Barcelona.
Curated by Fousion Gallery on display at @rootsaudiophilecafe
Dadara will give an artist talk during the opening.

SAVE THE DATE!

Save the date, Barcelona! 🖤

For the next few days, I’ll be hiding away inside the legendary walls of @studio46barcelona . Creating in the exact sanctuary where master printmaker Joan Barbarà once collaborated with Miró and Dalí has been pure alchemy. Today, the studio is run by the third generation of the same family, and it's a true honor to work here with Joan's son Virgili and grandson @filosom

Ink, history, and a touch of Barcelona magic. I will tell you more soon about what and where I will exactly present at my upcoming exhibition and artist talk on the 15th of October curated by @fousiongallery

But for now please block your calendar for the 15th of October! ⏳

Full invitation drops later this week, but I wanted to make sure you save the date early🙏

Comment below or send me a DM if you want to receive the official invite directly. Otherwise, watch this space! ✨ by @dadara_art

WELCOME TO THE OTHERWORLD ✨️🌟

A few months ago I was busy unlocking my bike to go home, when I suddenly heard my name. When I looked up I saw someone I knew standing in a door opening. She said "You should come join us. We have a private piano concert starting in a bit".

So I locked my bike again, walked in and sat down on some cushions on the floor, and then noticed a book lying next to me which had the word "Psychomagic" written on the cover. I opened the book, first sentence I read was about Burning Man, so I closed the book again to take a closer look at the cover, and then saw it was written by Caveat Magister, who I had met the year before. I asked if I could borrow the book and started reading it the moment I got home.

Two days later I had a meeting with @vernooij.mark of @thnkschool who wanted to talk with me about the possibility of collaborating on their yearly THNK FSTVL. First thing he mentioned when I walked in was that they were doing a project with Caveat Magister and if I wanted to get involved...

In Caveat's book he mentions that when Serendipity keeps happening all the time it becomes Serentypical 😍

Laat weekend the THNK FSTVL happened at @basecamp_amsterdam A magical gathering filled with talks, workshops, experiences, breathwork, and lots of inspiring people from all over the world.

The first experience on Friday was designed by Caveat in collab with Lieselotte of THNK. People were guided into different Otherworlds (the Farabove, Hidden Homeland, Labyrinth, Sunken City, and more) with each Otherworld having its own Passport, and all those Passports were designed by yours truly 🤟🏽

Still processing everything that happened last weekend and I guess I'm not the only one...😅 But anytime that me or any of the other participants want to go back to the Otherworld, we have our Passports to get granted Entry! I hope people will cherish their passports and was happy to see that @jenniferkanary already customized hers 🔥

Thanks to Mark, Lieselotte, @sallaertsanne @bas_verhart and everybody else at THNK for making this happen and @carmensantana_ for letting me have the psychomagical book for all those months! 🙏♥️ by @dadara_art

ACABsolut Vodka. Still channeling some Berlin inspo 🔥🔥🔥

Definitely a different vibe I guess than thus coming weekend where I'll be artist-in-residence at @thnkschool 's THNK FSTVL 😅

And next week new artventures in Barcelona.

Wherever you go, there you are

🤟🏽

PS and swipe to a flashback to the nineties when I did make an Absolut Dadara for Miami based magazine Van in a time when it definitely seemed cool because of the Absolut Haring and Absolut Warhol not so long before #throwback by @dadara_art

I feel privileged and grateful that I can travel around the world and experience and get the chance to create in so many magical places, but some hidden magical gems can also be found right around the corner in my hometown Amsterdam! One of them being the @embassyofthefreemind where I recently got inspired to spontaneously draw the first image in this post in my sketchbook 😍

Last Friday I took @be_svendsen and @christinamikelis to the Embassy. A few months ago I sent a photo to musician Be Svendsen of an image (fourth slide) I saw there which was drawn by the German physician and alchemist Heinrich Khunrath in 1602 (and later colored in the 18th century), because it features the rays of the Lapis Philosophorum (the Philosopher's Stone).

I sent it because the mystic and spiritual novel De vises sten (The Philosopher's Stone), written by his great-grandfather Johannes Anker Larsen in 1923 has been the inspiration for Svendsen's upcoming album which will get released this November.

So I was super happy that my good friend @jashavanderwel who works at the Embassy offered to give them a private tour of the building when they were in Amsterdam because of his gig at @thegardensofbabylon

A few weeks ago Be Svendsen and Christina got married during the total eclipse in Ibiza. I traced their hands during the event and then spontaneously created an artwork around it which was also based on the Philosophers Stone.
(2nd and 3rd slide)

Connecting the dots and connecting magical spaces in both Amsterdam and Ibiza ♥️

So if you get the chance and are in Amsterdam go visit the Embassy, and go listen to his album when it gets released in November!

PS My first drawing was inspired by the esoteric engraving "True Principles of All Things," designed by the German-English mystic and illustrator Dionysius Andreas Freher (1649–1728) (see sixth slide). taken in Embassy of the Free Mind by @dadara_art

Your monthly dose of Dadara: Listen to your heart.

We love his black-and-white line drawings, made with brush and ink. They make you think, question, or shift your perspective just a little.

Amongst all his installations, performances, mindfucks, and paintings, these drawings have been a constant red - or should we say black - thread throughout his career.

You travelled especially from Amsterdam to Berlin Art Week to not do any Art...??". Yes, that's exactly what I did, though as you hear in the first video of one of our visitors, it was a bit of a paradox, because the Art-Free Zone at @mahallaberlin might actually also be viewed as an artwork...😅 Does that mean there's no escape from Art for me?! A project to Mindfuck others somehow always ends up Mindfucking me the most!

I shared a few videos from visitors because I loved the interaction with my Art-Free catalogues! ♥️ But most of the time I was just in the Now, so most of the interactions aren't videos, but Memories 😊

Being surrounded by sketchbooks with empty pages (the Art-Free Catalogues) and not being able to draw in them initially felt like torture. Then at the opening someone mentioned that besides those empty books I should also have a pencil lying around that I couldn't use to make it even more tempting (see 2nd slide)

Someone else then thought it would be best to describe the word 'Art' that we should not talk about as the A-word.  Not being able to draw and not talk about Art initially felt like torture, until someone enlightened me and said: "no, it's awareness". And that actually helped me. Stepping out of your comfort zone and stripping reality of things that you consider an essential part of reality definitely is enlighting! It's also the reason why in the past I have spent a week locked up in a box in the desert, or a week in pitch black darkness.

Since a lot of artists entered the space but we couldn't say that we were artists, someone decided to just call ourselves "unemployed", which made everyone happy, and life easier 😅

So many stories and insights, so much stuff that happened, but I could not write it down, because if I would have started using the pen I guess it quickly would've turned into art... it's a slippery slope. I guess I will have a lot to process in the coming weeks!

PS keep swiping to see some videos of performances happening at Mahalla during the week. I love that space! ♥️ Big thanks to @ralfschmerberg @annaborowy @pielleshots and the whole team of Mahhala! And @iriskauffman for joining the performance 😍 by @dadara_art
