Dubplate story 2 #eastendrock

In 2009, we visited several studios in Kingston. First, we went to Big Ship Records. This was during the era when the Gully/Gaza feud and the Alliance had the biggest tracks in dancehall. The most active producer at the time was Stephen McGregor (now a Grammy-winning producer who works with Tyga, Shenseea, Vybz Kartel, and Masicka). While Stephen was working on his next hit in the studio with Chino and Laden, his father, Freddie "The Captain" McGregor, was chilling on the terrace with his crew.

After this visit, we were invited to Penthouse Records. Producer Shane Brown called us to let us know that Busy Signal was in the studio. We couldn't miss that opportunity, so we decided to voice our favorite song, dubplate style. After the recording session, Donovan Germain (the big man and head producer of Penthouse Records) gave us a tour. He showed us the production process behind the 45 singles. Following the tour, we also ran into Richie Spice and Buju Banton, who were having a rehearsal session upstairs in the studio.

*After recording Busy Signal, we decided to make a remix of the track over a hip-hop beat (Full Clip, Guru). Big up D&H. taken in Kingston, Jamaica by @daddydnh
