I know, I know. Moving from California to Malaysia to start a plant business makes ZERO sense. Who does that?

Well, me. I didn’t move across the world for plants. I moved for Love, and well, Love makes us do crazy things.

When I landed in KL, I found that every self-watering pot out there was cheap and ugly plastic. I didn’t want that in a home I live in with said “LOVE.”

So… Urban Roots was born. It became another reason to be here. Something that I can build for us. And every time I see an Urban Roots pots in your homes and offices... I can see a piece of my heart in there too. Stay tuned to meet some of our best-seller plants next time. Do YOU have an Urban Roots pot (or several 😉) too?

Some classics become more than just a film. They become a memory. ✍️

For actor @daddydumpling, Shaolin Soccer brings him back to Sundays spent around the TV with his family before moving from Hong Kong to the US. Beyond its comedy and action, the Stephen Chow classic became a reminder of the joy of sharing laughter with the people closest to him.

As part of the 2026 AUGUSTMAN Writing Challenge, presented by @montblanc, we ask our personalities to put pen to paper and share the classics that have left a lasting mark on them.

Now, it’s your turn. tell us at the link in bio.

A leap of faith into the unknown, one that may have cost Ray Kam his relationship with his father, at least in the beginning.

Ray Kam dropped out of his master’s program just shy of four months in to pursue content creation and acting, after witnessing audience reaction worldwide to his Cantonese content. The entertainment industry in the heart of Los Angeles was entirely foreign to him. He had grown up within the familiar walls of Biola University and his neighbourhood in San Gabriel Valley, with no real connection to Hollywood. His future had seemed set: a swimming scholarship, a clear path toward a Kinesiology career. But he chose to pivot anyway.

While the decision left his father not speaking to him for a few months, that same pivot would eventually give rise to a beautiful relationship between father and son.

It's 12am and I'm armed with a broomstick and a head lamp to go pollinate DURIAN FLOWERS 🧹🌼

Fruit bats, insects, & bees usually do this job, but in order to increase successful pollination and harvest yield, the agronomists have opted for a "home remedy" in the meantime. As we speak, the agronomists are building new bee hives to increase their population, and it now makes me curious on how durian flower honey tastes...

Durian farming is extremely tedious and time consuming, but this tender care and love is what the king of fruits needs 😬 by @daddydumpling

Designer Durians were once just a wild "Kampong" Tree 🌳

Every notable Durian species actually stems from one original mother tree, and at the time, this tree was classified as a "Kampong Tree," aka a wild tree. By cloning this exact tree through grafting, their fruits have been replicated and commercialized, thus leading to more notable variations, ie Musang King, Black Thorn, D23, etc.

You may ask... "why not just plant the seed from a designer durian?" Although it may be that simple, the seeds from designer durian may lack in a few characteristics that may make it a successful tree. For example, the seed of a Musang King is very small and flat, which means the stored energy in this seed is minimal, which makes this a weak sapling thus leading to a weak tree. On the other hand, Kampong Seeds are very large and strong, which makes them a great base tree that can supply nutrition to the grafting process of the designer durian.

Furthermore, since Durian seeds take 8 years to fruit... you can think that every "Kampong Seed" is a mystery box ... and you won't know the flavor until it matures.

The craft of Durian cultivation is extremely tedious and requires long term dedication... and the demand of this fruit is only ever so rising.

Ever wanted to know how Durians are made? My Dad and I slept over night at the @royalpahangdurianofficial orchard in Pahang, Malaysia, to uncover the secrets of the King of Fruits 🤠🥟

Growing up, my favorite shows were "How It's Made" and "Dirty Jobs." And now... I'm traveling across Malaysia & ASEAN to learn about niche crafts, industries, and anything behind the scenes.... starting with DURIAN!

Full video on yt (:

HUGE thank you to the team at @royalpahangdurianofficial for having @grandpadumpling & I, we can't wait to come back for harvesting season 👀 taken in Pahang, Malaysia by @daddydumpling
