Unity Fest is going to be special this year.
The Deal Breakers are proud to honor the memory of Columbus blues legend Jimmy McGee with a tribute performance you won’t want to miss.

We’re celebrating the man behind the music from the soulful grit of I Don’t Play to his final project, PAPER.
Let’s come together to honor a musician who gave so much to the Columbus community.
See you there!

For nearly two decades, The Flex Crew has stood as a cornerstone of the Columbus music scene, infusing the city with the infectious rhythms of roots reggae, funk, and soul. Known for their high energy performances and commitment to “positive vibrations,”
they are more than just a band;
they are a collective that understands the power of music to bridge divides.
With a sound that seamlessly blends classic reggae sensibilities with modern grooves,
The Flex Crew has mastered the art of turning any venue into a space of shared joy, movement, and connection.

Why Music Matters for the Linden Community

Bringing an act like The Flex Crew to the Linden community for Unity Fest is a vital investment in the neighborhood’s social fabric.
Linden is a community with a rich, resilient history, and events like Unity Fest serve as essential catalysts for local healing and empowerment.

Fostering Neighborhood Pride
Music acts as a mirror, reflecting the vibrancy and talent within the community.
By hosting high-quality live performances, Unity Fest signals that the Linden community is a place worthy of celebration, investment, and top-tier cultural experiences.
Creating Safe, Joyous Spaces: In areas that have faced systemic challenges, providing a space where residents can gather, dance, and simply enjoy themselves is a radical act of community care.
Live music breaks down social barriers, allowing neighbors to connect in a shared, positive emotional environment.
The Healing Power of Rhythm: Reggae, in particular, carries a legacy of social consciousness and unity. The message behind the music one of peace, resilience, and collective strength—aligns perfectly with the goals of Unity Fest.
It provides a soundtrack for dialogue and a release for the stresses of daily life, helping to foster a sense of belonging and mutual support among attendees.

By centering Unity Fest around live music, you are not just organizing a concert; you are creating a landmark moment that validates the community’s spirit and reinforces the bonds that make Linden strong.

I'm always late posting because I want to enjoy the moment instead of stopping & post right away. Anyway I got to see & talk briefly with my O.G. Big Bro @rcalh56 Friday night at Ohio State fair. He was hitting with Bobby Harris @thedazzband. MR. Calhoun was the longtime drummer for The Gap Band and the writer of "Outstanding", which if memory serves me correctly was written about the birth of his daughter. He also was a dear friend of my late big brother Frank Thompson formerly of The Barkays. MR. Calhoun has ALWAYS been that guy for me, along with others that inspired me. When it comes to being funky as hell, playing for the song but throw in some chops sparingly and a D-E-E-P pocket?? He's that guy!!! Can't say enough about him other than thank you for EVERYTHING & simply for being YOU!!! Love you Bro!!! 🙏🏾💪🏾✊🏾🤘🏾🥁❤️ by @daddytroy
