I’ve been writing a Substack newsletter for more than a year now, publishing a mix of personal essays, diaristic dispatches, cultural criticism, and occasionally fiction 2-3x a month. If you don’t already subscribe, please consider doing so with the link in my bio. I don’t want your money — everything is free to read — I just want an audience for these pieces that I often labor over for weeks or months at a time, dedicating my evenings and weekends to drafting, editing, and rewriting until every word sings.

I will publish a new piece this week on what would’ve been my dad’s 70th birthday. It’s a close reading of poems by W. B. Yeats and my dad. Poetry has long confounded me, but I decided to train myself to read it thinking it might bring me closer to my dad, whose final expressions were poems and whose brevity, deep feeling, and absence of rationality echoed in the form I found so inscrutable.
