— Himmel the Hero

Recently, I started reading the Frieren manga. I've already watched both seasons of the anime, but I wanted to go straight to the source and appreciate its art. Reading it has only made me appreciate and love this story even more.

I can proudly say that Himmel is one of my favorite characters, and whenever we get to see flashbacks of him, I can't help but tear up. I don't know what it is, but there's something so endearing about seeing a “Hero” who is wise, kind, and has a heart of gold. Characters like him make you want to be a better person.

One of the things I love most about Frieren is how it explores the passage of time and the importance of the memories we create throughout our life. How even the most "ridiculous journey" can become something worth remembering and our treasure.

It's one of those stories that makes me stop and think about whether I'm really doing my best to live my life to the fullest and if I'm cherishing every moment. It also makes me wonder whether, through these paintings or my art, I could leave a little trace of myself behind. Something that even when I'm no longer here, it can be a proof of my existence.

I know that maybe drawing or painting won't change the world, but I would like to believe that whatever I create can let people know that I existed, that I felt something, and that I wanted to share it with others.

“Truth is... I've never gone to school either.”
— Reze

It's been almost a year since I first saw Chainsaw Man – THE MOVIE: Reze Arc, and it still lives rent-free in my mind. It is a movie that moved me in ways I never believed it would.

I had said it before, but to me, this movie is truly a masterpiece. From the animation to the soundtrack, everything is just perfect. The way that, through the soundtrack alone, it is able to convey that feeling of vulnerability while also haunting us with the reminder that this moment is fleeting and ephemeral is something that stayed with me.

Just listening to the soundtrack, “in the pool,” brings me to tears just by thinking about how, for this brief moment, these two kids were able to be “free” and to “live” a normal life. How, in this brief moment, they were able to find each other.

That scene alone has so much depth that it is burned into my mind. That's why I felt it was only fitting that I try to paint it.

I'm really proud of this painting, especially considering that the last time I painted Reze, I messed up the hair. This time, I feel like I was finally able to do her justice.

Another page in my gouache journal.

This is one of the most important pieces in my journal.

Just like Arthur, this piece marked a cornerstone in my growth and development as an "artist." It meant that I was getting better, that I was improving, and that I was ready to keep chasing new challenges that you'll soon see.

This piece also established a pattern of alternating between anime characters and more realistic subjects with greater detail.

“Goodbye, V, and never stop fighting.” — Johnny Silverhand

Cyberpunk 2077 was definitely one of the greatest gaming experiences I have ever had. I got to play it on release day on my PS4, and although it wasn't a great release, thankfully, I didn't experience any game-breaking bugs.

However, looking past those minor details, the story was one hell of a roller coaster ride. It got me thinking about how I would feel if I were in V's shoes and, out of nowhere, the body, memories, and mind that had been mine my whole life slowly started fading away.

Stories like that are the ones that keep me engaged and emotionally invested. I grew to love Johnny (I mean, it's portrayed by Keanu), so I wanted to give him a try and use the character as an opportunity to practice.

It was a really fun experience.

"A TRAIL OF FOXES" 🦊

“In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks.” — John Muir

These five paintings were made at different points in time, with the first one being the most recent, followed by the others in chronological order from oldest to newest. They all are part of a mini collection I started to make without realizing, and were given to someone dear to me who shares the same love of foxes as I do.

Looking at them together, it is easy to see how far I have come and how each one of them represents a different moment, a different level of experience, and a different version of me as I was learning, experimenting, and trying to improve.

Foxes are one of the most beautiful animals, and across different cultures, they have been associated with guidance, adaptability, and resilience. Those are characteristics and qualities that I see in this little girl.

May these foxes be able to guide your life and allow you to achieve all those dreams you have.

Life may not always be kind, but I hope you never lose your spark nor your sunlight. Things will start to look up, and the sun will shine upon us once again.

After finally catching up on this digital journal with all my drawings, it was time to finally post something done recently.

Moving on from anime style, I wanted to keep practicing once more with a more realistic style, and I'm quite proud of the result.

It took me the whole afternoon and part of the night to finish it, but it was all worth it.

And I feel that the Ciri I made previously is finally in good company.

“LONGING”
“Even if things don't go as you'd hoped, you can still enjoy the process.” — Himmel

Initially, when I started to draw Himmel, it was just drawing a male character because I had already drawn and painted a female character (Ciri). But as I was doing it, I couldn't fathom the idea of Himmel being by himself.

For that reason, I decided to create another painting to its side, and now, I cannot fathom looking at one painting without the other, as to me, they are meant to be one.

Himmel, the distant memory of someone who is no longer there, but made an impact, while Frieren is the one who carries the memory and wants to learn to understand humans.

“Longing”

As I mentioned before, Longing encompasses two pieces that connect and create this everlasting feeling of hoping to see someone, wanting to be with someone.

Most of the time, when we grieve and long for someone, our view of that feeling is negative. We view it as if it were something negative, and it shouldn't be. What is grief if not love persevering? The culmination of love is grief, and despite that, we choose to love because that's what makes us human.

I chose to depict Frieren as someone who treasures and cherishes those memories. I really enjoyed the process of creating this piece, and above all, giving it meaning and a purpose.

I don't know how many people stop to read these descriptions, but I hope someone is out there reading it.

“To live is to be known and remembered by others.” — Himmel

This painting encompasses two pieces that form one piece, and I called it “Longing.”

Himmel the Hero, the type of person we should aspire to be and strive to be like.

This first piece of Longing was meant to capture Himmel's essence and soul, giving him this dreamy look to simulate a vivid memory of a loved one, like a memory of a moment that is stuck in your mind.

I'm really proud of this piece, as it is the second time where I don't really rely heavily on using references, but instead try to create something of my own.
