Hi.

This is little Fina.

I wasn’t scared in this picture.

I was doing math I didn’t have the numbers for.

For decades, I thought this was just how I looked as a kid. Serious. A little far away.

Then I realized it wasn’t just this picture.

It was almost every picture from preschool through kindergarten, maybe even first grade.

You know those GIFs where equations float around someone’s head while they’re trying to solve a problem?

That was little Fina every time a camera pointed at her.

Except I wasn’t solving for math.

I was trying to make sense of information. Things I could feel. Things I knew were there. Things no one else around me seemed to notice.

And I had absolutely no language for any of it.

So it settled on my face.

Year after year.

Trying to solve for something I couldn’t name yet.

I have the language now.

Last night, during a thunderstorm, the power kept flickering on and off, so my 4-year-old nephew came upstairs to hang out with me.

We danced to kids’ songs, ran around the room, and eventually my crystals caught his eye.

He picked up this little labradorite heart and looked at me very seriously.

“Where is him mommy?”

I pointed to my larger piece of labradorite.

“That’s his mommy.”

He looked at the little heart. Then he looked at the larger stone.

“Why he not with him mommy?”

Honestly, I didn’t have an answer for that.

So he carefully picked up the little heart, carried him over to the larger piece, and placed him right in front of her.

Problem solved.

This morning I found them exactly where he left them.

Sometimes children see things more clearly than we do.

If someone belongs with love, why wouldn’t they be there?

My heart melted. 🥹💙✨

woke up this morning and felt like it was time to call my energy back to myself.

my strength.
my focus.
my peace.
my love.
my attention.
all of it.

not because being generous was wrong.
not because caring was wrong.
but because I realized I was pouring into places that never required that much of me in the first place.

the last year stretched me in ways I’m still recovering from.
moving twice.
healing after emergency surgery.
rebuilding.
letting go.
relearning myself.

so now?
I’m calling my energy back to me.

also, respectfully, the blocked list on my phone currently looks like the dead sea scrolls.
