1886. 140 years of history. The oldest card in my collection. 🌍

Not a rookie card. Not a modern chase. Just a fascinating little piece of history.

This is my 1886 Allen & Ginter “Nubia”, from the 50-card Natives in Costume (N16) series, originally issued to promote cigarettes in Richmond, Virginia.

Produced using color lithography, these miniature artworks captured how a 19th-century American company chose to portray cultures around the world.

The same Nubia design is even documented in New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.

But the history behind the name goes much further back.

Nubia, located largely in present-day Sudan and southern Egypt, was home to powerful African civilizations, including Kerma and the Kingdom of Kush.

Kushite rulers even conquered Egypt and established its 25th Dynasty.

Now here's what makes this card especially interesting to me.

These illustrations weren't neutral historical records. They reflected the cultural perspectives, assumptions, and sometimes stereotypes of their time.

A card like this tells two stories: the culture it attempts to represent and the society that created the image.

For years, I've been collecting vintage cards connected to different cultures, people, and places. This is another lane of my collection, far removed from today's hype-driven card market.

And the beautiful part? Some of these historical pieces are surprisingly affordable.

I don't collect them because every depiction is accurate. I collect them because they make me curious.

Sometimes a trading card isn't just something to own. It's something to learn from.

That's what I love about collecting.

Some cards are rare.

This one is literally a piece of original art.

A hand-drawn 2010 Upper Deck Iron Man 2 Artist Sketch Card — true 1/1.

What I love most about this card isn’t even the 1/1 stamp.

It’s the artwork.

The classic red-and-gold armor.
The blue sky and clouds.
The way Iron Man is flying straight toward you.
The movement, the colors, the almost comic-panel feeling of the whole piece.

It feels less like a trading card and more like a tiny original Marvel illustration captured inside a card.

And then there’s the pop culture side of it.

Iron Man became one of the defining characters of modern superhero culture — from comic books to cinema to an entire generation growing up with that red-and-gold armor.

That gives a card like this another layer.

You’re not only holding original artwork.

You’re holding a small piece of modern pop-culture history.

No parallel.
No second copy.
No identical version somewhere else.

Just one artist.
One drawing.
One card.

ONE CARD.
ONE ARTWORK.
ONE PIECE OF POP CULTURE.
ONE OF ONE. 🦾🔥

BELIZE BEFORE BELIZE WAS BELIZE. 🇧🇿

This one is special to me.

Belize is part of my family story, and I’ve been looking for trading cards connected to Belize for quite a while. Honestly, there just isn’t much out there — at least I haven’t been able to find it.

And then I came across this.

A nearly 100-year-old British Honduras card from the German Abdulla Länderwappen-Sammlung, showing the country that would later become Belize.

What makes it even more special to me is that I live in Germany — and somehow, the first vintage Belize-related trading card I’ve ever found is actually a German card.

That connection is just crazy to me.

It’s definitely not the most expensive card in my collection, but historically, it might be one of the most interesting.

Almost 100 years old.
British Honduras.
Printed in Germany.
And now part of my Belize collection.

I’ve genuinely struggled to find vintage trading cards connected to Belize or British Honduras, so if anyone knows of other cards, sets or collectibles like this, please let me know.

I’d really love to know what else is out there.

This one feels personal. 🇧🇿

1995 MICHAEL JORDAN. GOLD MEDALLION. PURE 90s NOSTALGIA. 🐐✨

This card means more to me than just another Michael Jordan basketball card.

I actually had this 1995 Fleer Ultra Michael Jordan Double Trouble card as a kid. My childhood copy definitely didn’t survive in PSA 9 condition 😅 — but I never forgot it.

Years later, I bought it again.

This time: the Gold Medallion version, graded PSA 9.

And honestly, I’m just happy to have it in my collection.

For me, this is exactly what trading card collecting is about: childhood memories, 90s basketball, Michael Jordan, Chicago Bulls, Fleer Ultra, incredible card design and that feeling you get when you finally own a card again that takes you straight back to being a kid.

The 1990s were such a special era for basketball cards, and this Michael Jordan Double Trouble Gold Medallion is one of those cards that instantly brings it all back.

Amazing card.
Amazing era.
And one I’ll always have a personal connection to. ❤️🏀

What’s one card you owned as a kid that you had to buy again as an adult?

This is not a price post.

It is a research post.

This 1983 Dolly Madison Charlie Brown Baseball card is from my own collection: an early six-card US food-promo issue with a blank back.

Before asking, “What is it worth?”, I asked a better question:

What can this card actually prove?

So I turned the research into a small Collector Evidence Lab:

01 — Identify the card
02 — Read the population data
03 — Separate a listing from a verified sale
04 — Write a responsible collector conclusion

The PSA population is interesting: 75 recorded grades across the full issue, 15 Charlie Brown examples and no recorded PSA 10.

But that does *not* prove a print run.
And an asking price does *not* prove market value.

That is the collector skill I want to build: look closely, verify the evidence, name the uncertainty — then tell the story.

Research before price.

What card in your collection deserves a proper research pass?

Educational commentary using a card from my personal collection. No affiliation with PSA or Peanuts.

Me: “I’m done buying cards this month.”

Also me at 1:17 AM:
“Okay… but this one is different.” 😂🤦🏾‍♂️

We all know this one. 🫠

Which is why I have one golden rule:
Never browse cards late at night.

And definitely not while lying in bed. 😂

Because somehow every card looks like “the one” after midnight. 👀😭

Please tell me I’m not the only one. 🤣🙋🏾‍♂️

Some cards just capture an era.

1997 SkyBox E-X2001 Michael Jordan #9 — PSA 8. 🐐

I actually bought this card years ago and kind of forgot how much I liked it until I looked at it again.

It’s not rare. It’s not some impossible chase card. I just think it’s beautiful.

The acetate. The foil. The black Bulls jersey. That unmistakable late-90s design language.

That’s what I love about collecting. Not every card has to be the rarest, most expensive, or hardest to find. Sometimes a card just has the right look, the right feeling, and brings you right back to why you started collecting in the first place.

This one does exactly that for me.

One of my favorite Jordan slabs in the collection.

Pure 90s energy. 🏀✨

Nobody will remember how busy you were.

But they might remember the things you loved.

Every generation has its objects. 😉

For some people it was paintings, records, watches, old books or furniture.

For us?

It might be a Jordan card.
A comic.
A Pokemon card.
A piece of Marvel history.
Or that completely ridiculous card nobody else understands why you love. 😂

And honestly, that’s the fun of it.

These cards are little pieces of pop culture.
Little time capsules.
Stories from the things we watched, the athletes we followed, the characters we grew up with and the moments we remember.

One day I want to open a box, pull out a card and instantly remember where I found it, why I wanted it and what was going on in my life at that time.

That’s the part of collecting I love.

Not just cards.

Memories you can hold.

And maybe a little legacy in a plastic slab. 😂

I really like cards like this.

Not because they’re the biggest cards in the world.
Not because everyone is chasing them.
But because sometimes a card just has the right mix of everything I enjoy as a collector.

This is my 2016 Topps Star Wars Masterwork Imperial Stormtrooper in the Lightsaber Purple parallel, numbered 15/25.

What pulled me in was the overall feel of it.
Masterwork is one of those Star Wars releases that already feels premium by design, and this one just works so well to me — the classic Stormtrooper image, the darker look, the purple frame, and the fact that only 25 copies exist.

That’s the kind of card I appreciate more and more:
not just rare for the sake of being rare, but a card with a strong subject, strong design, and real collector appeal.

It’s not the biggest card in my collection.
But it’s exactly the kind of card that fits how I collect.

Collect what you like.
