→ Arsenal fans, don’t you feel like this Lewis-Skelly situation has gotten out of hand…

Questioning his relationship with Arteta, narratives around his game time, the rumours about loans — it’s all a bit crazy for a 19 year old who broke into the first team last season.

Yes he’s amazing, and I 100% see why people are confused as to what’s happening. But to me, it’s clear that it’s purely tactical.

Arteta’s set up in the Premier League is very different to the way he sets up in the Champions League. And the change in set up requires different personnel.

So I really don’t think there’s any real need to panic or jump to conclusions with this situation.

Lewis-Skelly’s 19, extremely talented, and there’s plenty of football to be played this season.

He will get his chance.

💭 What do you make of the situation?

→ The Premier League fullbacks with the lowest dribbled past percentage this season.

Jurrien Timber? This guy’s moving crazy this season.

→ Lowest dribbled past percentage in the league (9%)
→ Highest tackles per 90 at Arsenal (2.8)
→ Part of a backline that’s conceded just 10 league goals

And that’s just the defending.

Going the other way?

→ 2 goals
→ 2 assists
→ 4th in the Arsenal squad for touches in the opposition box

He’s been insane this season. And remember, this guy came off a terrible ACL injury last year.

For me — Timber’s setting the standard at fullback right now.

💭 Where does he rank among the top fullbacks in the league for you?

→ What position is he?

I think Mikel Merino might be one of Arsenal’s most difficult players to understand.

Deep it.

We’ve got Rice, Bruno G, Ødegaard, Lewis-Skelly, all offering different things in midfield.

But Merino is genuinely nothing like our other midfielders.

The way he operates in midfield is so unique, yet so impactful.

The only thing is, we’ve seen de la Fuente get the best out of him.

But how does Arteta unlock this version of him?

Do you give him a midfield role that’s unique to him specifically?
Do you try a completely new midfield combination?
Or is his biggest strength the fact that he can come off the bench, adapt to different situations and change a game?

I can’t lie, there’s definitely still another level Arsenal could get out of him.

And I just wonder what the manager needs to do for us to see this.

💭 What would you do to get the most out of Merino?

→ I’ve been gone for a month and it’s made me clock that football narratives change faster than ever.

One week I was seeing debates around whether Saka is the best winger in the league.

The next week you’re seeing “pre-hamstring Saka” compilations.

And then I’m seeing posts about the players whose futures were being questioned the week before, talking about how they’re suddenly the solution.

The switch-up is actually mad.

And look, Brighton done us.

But one result doesn’t mean you have to rewrite history.

Honestly, I think the game just gives us some perspective.

We aren’t going to walk the league.

We just need to make some changes to make sure something like this doesn’t happen again.

And I don’t mean anything crazy.

It’s not like the solutions don’t already exist within the squad.

The main thing now is just how the team responds going forward.

Because for me, a poor result after a run of 9 straight wins should never cause a meltdown.

But maybe that’s just me. 🤷🏽‍♂️

💭 What changes would you make for the Leeds game?

→ I think it’s time we admit it…

Look, I understand when people talk about the greatest English midfielders ever, the names that come up are always Scholes, Lampard, Gerrard.

And rightly so.

And I know people love to think these guys can never be overtaken…

But I think we’re getting to the point where Jude’s already done it. 🤷🏽‍♂️

And deep it.

He’s only 23.

And when you look at his overall game?

The guy has everything:

→ The goals.
→ The creativity.
→ The ability to control games.

And he’s not showing this in flashes.

This is just what he does.

The guy’s already at the top level.

And what’s mad is...

I don’t even think he’s near his peak yet.

So if you don’t think he’s the greatest yet?

I don’t think it’ll be long until you do.

💭 Where do you think Jude Bellingham ranks among the greatest English midfielders ever?

→ I genuinely don’t understand all the criticism Thomas Tuchel is getting…

And look, I’m not trying to say he had a flawless World Cup.

Yes, he got it wrong against Argentina.

But losing to the reigning champions doesn’t suddenly mean England had a terrible World Cup.

When you actually take a step back and look at the tournament as a whole:

✅ Comfortably topped their group
✅ Beat Mexico at the Azteca
✅ Best finish since ’66

This is far from a disaster.

I understand the disappointment of falling short again.

But now that the dust has settled, I think Tuchel showed plenty of reasons to be optimistic about what this team can become.

It really feels like we have to stop looking at one result and start looking at the bigger picture.

Because for me?

There’s a lot to build on from this tournament, and with more time with this squad, Tuchel has every chance to take England even further.

💭 Do you think Tuchel is the right man for the England job?

→ The five players creating the most chances at the 2026 World Cup so far.

Chances created:

17 — Trossard
16 — Salah
15 — Messi
15 — Hakimi
13 — Alvarado

Every World Cup, there’s always a player who just decides they’re gonna have the tournament of their life.

And before a ball was kicked, I never doubted that Trossard would have a good tournament…

But to be 1st in chances created?

Above the likes of Salah and Messi?

Yeah… this guy is playing out of his skin.

Every four years, there always seems to be a player who just turns up and nobody expected to go this crazy.

And right now?

That player might just be Leandro Trossard.

💭 Which player has surprised you the most at the World Cup so far?
