<CWAK>

Beech Wood, 2000x2000xH1500(mm), 2019.

There is no agony at all about the future.
It's only focused on surviving right now.
No interest in what the being is clutching tightly.
No interest even more in the pain of the being!

<MAM>

Beech Wood, 2000x2000xH2400(mm), 2018.

Therefore, the ivory of the mammoth had to be beautifully expressed.
Just as the carnival's victims, where slaughter and festivals coexist, are beautiful!

Don’t Trust Me.
Interactive kinetic installation

PVC sheet, Tyvek, ribbons, ESP32, electronic components / 1800 × 1800 × 2200 mm / 2026

Musok is a traditional Korean belief system in which Mudang (shamans) mediate between humans and spirits, addressing concerns about illness, relationships, uncertainty, and the future.
Rather than explaining a situation through a single cause, Musok understands the present as something shaped by interconnected relationships, time, emotions, places, and surrounding conditions.
Today, Musok continues to evolve through personal consultations, online fortune-telling, livestreams, and AI-based divination. As these practices increasingly offer immediate interpretations and answers, uncertainty becomes something to resolve quickly rather than explore from different perspectives.
Don’t Trust Me. translates this way of thinking into an interactive installation featuring three fictional spirits of Time, Relationships, and Place.
The spirits appear through familiar everyday moments, such as waiting for water to boil, cleaning a room, or taking a shower — moments when we briefly pause and reflect on ourselves.
Instead of providing direct answers, each spirit responds with questions from a different perspective.
Through these encounters, the work invites participants to reconsider their situations not as the result of a single cause, but as something shaped by multiple relationships, conditions, and experiences.

The Heart Project began with a simple moment. driving into a parking garage, my father noticed two circular ceiling cutouts that momentarily aligned into a heart shape from a specific angle, snap a photo and text it to my mother. Inspired by that fleeting moment of everyday affection, this 3-piece furniture collection translates the accidental alignment into deliberate form, where circular cutouts converge into a hidden heart silhouette from a precise viewpoint.

Finished with maple veneer over plywood, the pieces initially present themselves as calm, familiar wooden objects. Yet, as viewers shift their perspective, the vibrant red inner void reveals itself. Beyond passive observation, the work invites physical movement to discover that brief moment of alignment.

Spanning a chair, a stool, and a lamp, this collection embeds wit, handcraft, and the pure joy of making into the furniture’s structural bones.

Demon Hunters
Heartbeat in the Gaze / Single-channel video / sound / 1min 36sec / 2025
https://youtube.com/shorts/Z45ncEaJbac?feature=share

This project started from the theme of Gross Encounters, exploring low-budget and retro aesthetics. I chose the lion mask dance (사자탈춤) as a starting point — a traditional shamanic ritual dance performed to ward off evil and bring good fortune. For the soundtrack, I used “범 내려온다” and projected Ambiguous Dance Company’s performance video in the background. Combining these elements, I created a kitschy, lo-fi video that reinterprets shamanic movement through playful visuals and nostalgic textures.

Heartbeat in the Gaze
Mixed media / 1000×1000×H1400mm / 2025
Single-channel video / sound / 1min 30sec / 2025
https://youtu.be/anEjPkTfXjM

We live under constant surveillance—surrounded by CCTVs, vehicle black boxes, and devices that endlessly record us. Once symbols of safety, these gazes now often provoke unease. Heartbeat in the Gaze visualizes the tension between being watched and feeling vulnerable.

Shaped like an ancient helmet, the device opens and closes its internal aperture in sync with the wearer’s heartbeat. Rising anxiety triggers red lights and warning sounds; calmness brings soft light and closure. The helmet becomes both a shield and a signal—revealing emotion as a form of self-defense.

What once seemed like a neutral machine gaze now feels deeply human—uninvited and uncontrollable. This work explores the dual position of being both observer and observed, transforming surveillance into a mirror that reflects inner states rather than merely exposing them.
