From a Basement on the Hill. 💬 by @dailyelliottsmith

Elliott Smith (1969 Omaha, Nebraska-2003 Los Angeles, California) - Angeles (live at Waterloo records, Austin 1998/09/26) Creds: Lena K on YouTube Steven Paul Smith or better known as Elliott Smith was one of the greatest to ever lived, he can be defined as a lot of things, a songwriter, a musician, a singer, a composer and a lot of other things but one of them was certain, he was a troubled genius that used a lot of emotions to fuel his art like sadness to rage, i saw a very beautiful comment about elliott that said: He smiled, but there was some inner tumult that came through in flashes. And if you look into his lyrics that really makes sense, he understood the melodies, chord changes and combined them with interesting and thoughtful lyrics. Elliott Smith was born in Nebraska on August 6, 1969. He was an only child, although he had half-siblings on both sides of his parents' families. His parents divorced when he was only six months old. As time passed, he was raised in Duncanville, Texas, by his mother. Around the age of 14, Smith went to live with his father in Oregon, where he would spend most of his life. Elliott's childhood was very difficult, as he had problems with his stepfather, Charlie Welch. Smith said that he was likely abused by him, allegation his stepfather denied. After graduating with a degree in philosophy and political science, Smith began calling himself Elliott because he felt that "Steve" sounded too much like a "jock" and that "Steven" sounded "too intellectual." Reaching adulthood and speaking of his career or life as a musician, Smith began with the band Heatmiser (1991-1996), created by him and his partner Neil Gust. During that time, Smith released two albums: Roman Candle in 1994 and a self-titled album in 1995. Later, in 1997, he would release his most famous and acclaimed album, Either/Or. His last two official albums were XO in 1998 and Figure 8 on April 18, 2000. Throughout his career, Smith struggled with various problems, including substance abuse and depression, until he died on October 21, 2003, at the age of 34 from two stab wounds to the chest. #elliottsmith#folk#acoustic#indie#singersongwriter by @dailyelliottsmith
