Join us this Saturday, November 22 from 1 - 2:30PM to hear leading artists, curators and scholars Dr. Lucy Bell, Dr. Mimi Gellman and Dr. Marianne Nicolson and Daina Warren, moderator and Director of Indigenous Initiatives at Emily Carr University, as they consider the ways in which the collecting of Indigenous belongings has been foundational to the history of building collections in British Columbia and beyond, both public and private.

The panel considers the histories, complexities and futures both in terms of historical belongings and of contemporary artworks, in the context of issues of repatriation and moving beyond colonial frameworks for collecting.

This takes place on the occasion of the exhibition Christos Dikeakos: The Collectors, the second show in our 10th anniversary celebration and features portraits of private collectors, along with selected artists and museums, with their collections.

Free to attend. Please RSVP using the link in our bio as space is limited.

We thank @acera_insurance, @bravoartservices, @nvrc, the Hamber Foundation and the Michael and Inna O’Brian Family Foundation, as well as the Friends of Christos Dikeakos, for their generous sponsorship of the 10th Anniversary Conversations on Collecting series.

Fazakas Gallery is pleased to present an Artist Talk with exhibiting artist Jean Paul Langlois and Indigenous art curator Daina Warren on Saturday, November 29, 2025, from 2-4 pm 🍂 🩵 Join us at the gallery or tune into our Instagram Live!

The conversation will delve into Langlois’ (@jeanpaullanglois) solo exhibition War and Peace, and Smoky the Cowhorse, on view at Fazakas Gallery until December 19, 2025. Based in East Vancouver, Langlois explores the intersection of his Métis and Scottish settler heritages through vibrant pop-culture motifs and ultra-saturated colour schemes. This exhibition brings together works from across his current projects, reflecting on family history, personal mythology, and the complexity of identity.

Joining Langlois in conversation is Daina Warren (@dainawarren), an Indigenous curator and artist from the Montana Cree First Nation. Warren serves as the Executive Director, Indigenous Initiatives at Emily Carr University of Art and Design and has built an extensive career dedicated to supporting and promoting Indigenous artists across North America.

This event offers an opportunity to hear directly from Langlois and Warren as they discuss the narratives, histories, and creative processes that inform Langlois’ practice. Fazakas Gallery invites guests to join us for an engaging and thought-provoking conversation into how contemporary Indigenous art continues to challenge, expand, and redefine cultural perspectives.
