 season 05 “blank slate”   最初は、すべてを白紙に戻してしまいたいと思っていました。あるいは、平和の象徴として、白を際立たせるコレクションを作ろうとしていました。 混沌とした現実や、繰り返される暴力に嫌気がさして、一度白く塗りつぶしてリセットすることができないかと考えていました。びっしりと書き殴られたノートに、静かな余白を作りたいと思っていたのだと思います。 しかし、制作を進めるうちに、その考えは少しずつ変わっていきました。 アトリエの本棚で、学生の頃に買ったSteven PinkerのThe Blank Slateを見つけました。John Lockeは、人間の心を「何の文字も書かれていない白い紙」にたとえ、そこに経験が観念を書き込んでいくと考えました。この発想は、後にタブラ・ラサ、あるいは白紙説として広く知られるようになります。Pinkerの著書は、その考えが極端に受け取られ、人間が環境によって自由に書き換えられる存在として理解されてきたことを問い直すものでした。 Pinkerは、環境や教育が人間に与える影響を否定しているわけではありません。彼が疑問を投げかけるのは、人間が何の性質も持たない空白として生まれ、ほとんどすべてを環境から与えられるという考えです。著書の中では、別々の環境で育った一卵性双生児に、性格や嗜好、行動の一部で類似が見られるという双生児研究も紹介されています。それは、人生が生まれた時点ですべて決まっているという話ではありません。環境だけでは説明できないものも、人間の中には確かにあるということです。 人にはそれぞれ心の形がある。持って生まれた傾向があり、育った環境があり、その上に感情や記憶が経験として積み重なっていく。何かを完全に消して、まっさらな状態に戻ることはできない。この考えを、毎日のように流れる戦争のニュースの中で改めて考えました。 ニュースの中では、国家、民族、敵、正義、大義といった大きな主語が使われます。その中で、一人ひとりが異なる人間であることや、それぞれが持つ記憶や痛みは見えにくくなり、別の意味に上書きされていく。社会が個人を一度白紙にして、扱いやすい記号へと置き換えているような感覚がありました。 もちろん、個人について考えることは、明確な加害や責任を曖昧にすることではありません。人間に攻撃性があると認めることは、攻撃してよいという意味ではない。人に性質や能力の違いがあると認めることも、差別や不平等を肯定することではない。 Pinkerの議論から私が受け取ったのは、人間を一つの型に当てはめず、生まれ持つ性質と、環境や経験によって形づくられるものの両方を見る態度でした。 同じものを内側に持ちながら、異なる表面として現れる。その関係が、今季の素材と色の構成につながっています。 ＜中略＞ 私にとって服を作ることは、自分の内側に生まれた違和感や感情を、素材と衣服に置き換えながら、今という時代と向き合うことです。 ブランドは、season 00から数えて、このコレクションで6シーズン目を迎えます。 これまで私に協力し、支えてくださったすべての方に感謝いたします 田邉大祐 photo: @taro__mizutani by @daisuke___tanabe

season 04 “atom” 5作目となる新しいコレクションを発表しました。プロフィールのリンクからコレクションの内容をご覧いただけます。 (下記、コレクションノートより)
前シーズンのコレクション「x」では、James Blakeの楽曲『Like the End』に端を発する危機感から、不要な関心の増幅がもたらす社会全体の「無関心」をテーマに据えました。真偽の曖昧な情報が速度優先で拡散される時代において、“x”を未定数や不確かさの象徴とし、揺らぐ真実の輪郭をグレーの階調で、未然の予兆をブルーで表現しました。 今シーズンの「atom」は、その霧を晴らすための答えを出すのではなく、霧の中にいながら希望を見失わないために個人という最小単位へ、視点を落としていく試みです。 
 転換のきっかけは、昨年の夏、図らずも耳にした山下達郎氏の「アトムの子」でした。自ずから抱いていたぼんやりとした危機感や不安を追い越し、先に体温だけを立ち上げてしまうプリミティブな力。それは「自己肯定」という別の選択が可能であることを理屈ではなく身体が先に知ってしまう、心地よいバグのような経験でした。ここで言うatomは、これ以上分割できない「不可分なもの」、外部がどれほど個を解体しようとしても奪えない核の比喩です。希望とは、世界が明るくなることを保証する言葉ではなく、今ここにある自分自身を肯定するための、静かな選択であると定義しました。 本コレクションの思想的背景には、映画『ブレードランナー 2049』が提示した実存主義があります。主人公Kが、自らが「特別な本質」を持つ複製体ではないと知った絶望の淵で、自らの意志による選択によって自らの実存（魂）を確立したように、私たちもまた、自らの手で自らを定義します。たとえ世界が無機質なグレーの階調に沈もうとも、今この瞬間を肯定すること。その静かな決意こそが、本コレクションにおける「希望」の定義です。 ＜中略＞ 常に今の自分の最大出力を表現すること。次があるという考えを捨て、ひたすら「今」に勢力を注ぎ込むことこそ、黄金の朝日に繋がると信じています。
