Slow living in a dream-in-progress cottage in the Northumberland countryside with Andrew & Daisy Dog🐾

POSTS STORIES REELS

If you’ve been here from day one, you’ll know we had every intention of becoming a full-on cottage renovation account. And hopefully (very soon) we’ll have lots of renovation projects to share with you.

But somewhere along the way, Daisy’s Doorstep became about so much more than renovating an old cottage.

It’s become a little corner of the internet where we celebrate slow living, changing seasons, cottage garden beauty (and fails! 😅) and finding joy in the ordinary everyday moments while we slowly make this old cottage our home.

The renovations are taking a little longer than we’d hoped (for reasons we can’t quite share just yet!), but rather than waiting for it to be finished, we’re choosing to enjoy the chapter we’re in now.

Thank you to every single one of the 6,000 of you who’ve joined us so far. Whether you’re here for the cottage, the garden, Daisy or simply because you dream of a slower pace of life, we’re so happy you’re here.

We hope you’ll stick around for the next chapter. There’s still so much of our story to tell 🫶🏼 by @daisysdoorstep

It’s been exactly a year since the very first time we stood outside this little cottage, and it’s hard to believe we now get to call it home 🏡

If this little dream-in-progress has taught me anything, it’s that you don’t have to wait until everything is finished to start enjoying the life you’ve dreamed about.

We’ve already made amazing memories just from the simple, ordinary moments like morning cups of tea in the garden, growing our first potatoes and watching the seasons change from our little corner of Northumberland.

Thank you for following along as we write this next chapter of Daisy’s Doorstep. There’s still so much of the story to come…

Forever grateful for our country life 🫶🏼

What’s one dream you’re slowly working towards? by @daisysdoorstep

I’m sure I’m not the only one this happens to…🤦🏼‍♀️

I obviously did not think it through to this far ahead when I casually created my little country cottage account 🤦🏼‍♀️🤭

For anyone confused, I’m Emma, Daisy is my dog and I won’t be changing my account name anytime soon 🫶🏼🐶

P.S can’t believe I’ve become the person who holds the mic 🫣 but the quality IS so much better 😅🤭 by @daisysdoorstep

I’m kinda embarrassed to admit that I didn’t know there was a correct time of year to plant certain bulbs 🫣 but everyone has to start somewhere, right?!

According to @the_rhs here is when is best to plant…
Daffodils - September-October
Tulips - November-December (but before the hard frosts)

Now I know, I will HOPEFULLY have some colour in my garden this spring 🤞🏻🌷

It’s going to be a slow process, but hopefully it will be worth it and I will have a dream cottage garden worthy of a Pinterest board… 🫣 wish me luck!

Follow along to learn with me and feel free to leave any words if encouragement below 💁🏼‍♀️💖

I think it’s really easy to forget…

Send this to someone who needs a little reminder that it’s ok to slow down 🫶🏼💌

I try not to take things for granted but it is so easy to get swept up in the chaos of everyday.

Moving to my cosy little cottage in the countryside has taught me so much, the important, is that it’s ok to slow down 🍁

Lovely and easy Sunday baking idea using what I had left in my cupboard. I’m no baker but these were simple and super tasty!

Make sure you save for later 💾

Store Cupboard Oat Cookie recipe

115g unsalted butter
163g light brown sugar
30g milk*
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
95g spelt flour**
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt
150g oats

• Preheat oven to 180° (fan oven).
• Mix all ingredients together in a bowl.
• Roll into little balls and place on a baking tray.
• Bake for 20 minutes.

* I used an almond drink but you can use any milk or alternative.
** this can be swapped out for plain flour.

Little note; make sure you spread out the dough balls on the tray, I crammed the all onto one but should have known better 😅🫣 I’ll them rustic 💁🏼‍♀️🩷 by @daisysdoorstep

ad| By far the best addition in our cottage garden so far! 🐦😍

I could stand at my kitchen windows for hours, not wanting to move in case I missed anything but now I get to see my garden visitors up close, straight to my phone whilst I go about my day and I don’t have to worry about missing anything!

Creating a cottage garden from scratch … 🤔🪏🪴

We moved into our cosy cottage 10 months ago and after leaving it all spring and summer to see what grows, I’ve decided to finally start tackling the front garden.

All the other cottages in the village have beautiful, established gardens and ours… well, apart from some beautiful foxgloves, ours needs a little bit of TLC.

It’s quite overwhelming and it’s going to take me a long time but I’m excited to learn and share what I’m learning for others who might be starting a similar journey.

If you’re a keen gardener, please do feel free to share any tips… I’m going to need them!

Follow along for episode 2 and to watch as I (hopefully!) improve as I go… by @daisysdoorstep

Please tell me I’m not the only one… 🤭

All I really want is a cosy little cottage and I want to make things with my hands, collect old things with a story to tell, prepare for winter far too early and spend rainy afternoons pottering about at home.

A life that feels a little slower and a little bit like stepping into a favourite childhood storybook.

Is that so much to ask?

It’s been 10 months since we moved into our country cottage and not much has changed other than the seasons.

But even though we’ve barely started the big renovation plans, I wake up grateful for our country life everyday and I’m so in love with our cosy cottage.

I’m not sure we’ll be any further forward when we hit the 1 year mark but I wonder where we’ll be this time next year.

I am truly enjoying the journey now 🥰

Are you renovating at the moment? How far into your project are you? by @daisysdoorstep

I love this time of year, but I do find the darker days can sometimes leave me feeling a little flat. Getting outside in the autumn sunshine and pottering around the cottage and garden always helps me feel a little more like myself.

And after almost a year of waiting to see what would grow in our front garden, I think it’s finally time to start creating the cottage garden I’ve always dreamed of.

I’m going to document the whole journey so do follow along and let me know in the comments if you’d like to see more.

Slowly creating our dream country life, one ordinary day at a time 🥰

Ad. This is your reminder to sow your wildflower seeds before the end of this month!!

I’ve never had my own garden before so I’m learning as a complete beginner.

And after a disastrous spring earlier this year, I ended up with zero wildflowers when I sowed some seeds back in March/April and I just couldn’t work out why!

But @meadowmania.co.uk taught me that if I want a successful wildflower display in my cottage garden next year, it’s best to sow the seeds this autumn!

So, share this with someone who needs a reminder to sow their wildflower seeds now.

I’ll be updating you all on how it’s going when springtime rolls around.
