It’s been just over a week since our debut night at @theartystcambridge, and we had an absolute blast. What’s more, we have the photos to prove it! 📸

Greetings 👋 We’re all in that murky part of the year where most of us are full of cheese, and no one knows quite what day it is (it’s Sunday). So we thought we’d take opportunity to celebrate what has been an excellent year for WORD SALAD, and a great year for Cambridge poetry in general.

We started our open mic this year and have been blown away by the community that started forming at these nights, and that’s thanks to YOU – everyone who has attended, read, performed, or just supported from afar. As we are about to embark on a new adventure at @theartystcambridge (cough, Jan 17th cough), here are some shots from our birthplace @thrivecambridge featuring some (but not nearly all) our lovely open miccers. And it wouldn’t be WORD SALAD without the amazing poster (which has caught so many eyes and inspired at least one bizarre ritual on Mill Road – ask us later…) by the always incredible @angharadhengyu. From @daisytgee and @tinyshrines_, thank you!

This year has also seen some great events across the city with the @cambridgepoetryfestival hosting their first rebooted event, @millroadwinterfair hosting Nurture / Transformation showcases and great regular nights courtesy of @cb1_poetry, Mill Road Poetry & @globalpoetscult. It’s been an honour to attend and perform at some of these, and meet the hardworking, passionate folk behind them. No ticketed event has had less than 40 people attending, which for a relatively niche prospect like spoken word is incredible. A great year for local events!

So… roll on 2026 eh?

I was honoured to exhibit some new work at this year's Summer At The Beach (Waterbeach Arts Festival) alongside so many talented artists.

I was lucky to be in a room bursting with creativity from some of my queer craft alliances @edv.creates , @louise_tarling and @freyapainart. Felt very proud having our work nestled in together.

This was the first time I've displayed my collages and I felt very welcomed by @summer.at.the.beach.waterbeach , @freyapainart and @gideonpaine and all who organised this year's festival. What an incredible space to share work and experience live, interactive and experimental art in all its forms.

I especially loved the @movingcompositions performance on the closing weekend, presented by @laura.christina.edwards and the gang. So glad I was able to catch that!

A huge thank you to all those who came along over the 3 weekends, for the loved ones who brought flowers and words of encouragement, the strangers who reached out, and anyone who took time to look upon some little visual poetry experiments and say kind things.
