🎨 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | KEYONNA JONES + DALI ANEWD

What happens when art becomes a catalyst for healing, empowerment, and change within the communities we call home?

Our next Artist Spotlight brings together Keyonna Jones and Dali Anewd, two artists whose practices look beyond art as an object and explore its ability to transform people, places, and systems.

Keyonna Jones is a Washington, D.C. native whose work bridges art, community advocacy, and entrepreneurship. As the founder of the Congress Heights Arts and Culture Center, Keyonna has helped expand artistic opportunities and cultural programming east of the Anacostia River while championing youth development and creative empowerment. Her practice spans tattooing, murals, public art, photography, fashion, and graphic design, with her line-based work rooted in healing, self-reflection, and transformation.

Dali Anewd is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist whose practice explores the relationship between people and the environments they build. Working across visual art, multimedia installation, performance, film, sculpture, and mixed media, Dali examines resilience, transformation, sustainability, incarceration, housing, and the ways physical environments influence memory, identity, and opportunity.

Together, their practices demonstrate how creative expression can become a form of community building.

We’re excited to bring their work together for Blueprints & Brushstrokes II and explore how art can help us not only see our communities differently, but imagine and build what comes next.

🎨 ARTIST SPOTLIGHT | DALI ANEWD + JENNIFER SWANN

What happens when art becomes a way to explore the environments we inhabit, the experiences we carry, and the stories that shape us?

Our first paired Artist Spotlight features Dali Anewd and Jennifer Swann, two artists whose practices explore transformation, personal experience, and the ways creativity can connect people to themselves, each other, and the world around them.

Dali Anewd is a multidisciplinary contemporary artist working across visual art, multimedia installation, collaborative performance, and experimental film. His practice exists at the intersection of socially engaged art and material experimentation, using immersive storytelling to explore resilience, transformation, mental health awareness, environmental sustainability, prison reform, and hemp as both a material and metaphor. At the heart of his work is an exploration of the relationship between people and the environments they build.

Jennifer Swann approaches art as an emotional outlet and a way to bring ideas into the world. Working primarily in marker, ink, graphite, colored pencil, and oil pastel, her visual art practice is deeply rooted in observation, personal experience, and imagination. Her creative practice is also shaped by her passion for dance, with experience in Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Brazilian Zouk, Dancehall, and Ballet.

Together, their practices invite us to consider how art can reflect our lived experiences while helping us reimagine the spaces, stories, and possibilities around us.

We’re excited to bring their work together for Blueprints & Brushstrokes II, where architecture and art come together as platforms for expression, connection, and community.

Life is so surreal for me these days....so much negativity, hatred, suffering, torment, and despair in the atmosphere. As I sit here, in my friends garden, trimming these nugs...I find myself in deep reflection...I have come to a realization that nearly everyday for more than the past 3 decades....I have awakened every morning, feeling that it was a good chance that it would be my last day living on this earth. I'm sure this constant stress induced feeling has contributed towards my aging throughout the negative directions my life has taken at times...the silver lining for me exists in the fact that in recent years...I have used this increased feeling of eminent danger as a reason to do more, in hopes of creating a legacy of meaning that will outlive me... on some days , the feeling of doom seems heavier, lingering like a weighted albatross around my neck...but has never been heavy enough for me to be defeated....I know I have a small circle of compassionate over ones who care....but must be honest in saying that more times than not, I feel all alone.. I realize that that alone feeling is just my mind playing tricks on me...but yet and still..feeling alone hurts. .
If I cross paths with you...extend a positive thought...smile...or moment of laughter with you... please know the value of what I've just shared with you...because...truth be told more times than not...I've had to pay a heavy price to get to enough positivity to be able to share it with you.... 💯 by @dalianewd
